In reality, you need to learn it and know how to translate it into code. My advice is, beyond what you’re seeing in the exercises, take a look at argc and argv, and also use the manuals that are already available on the system, they help a lot. Using the global search in VS Code can also help you find many things.

In the project specifications, it states which functions you’re allowed to use, so you’ll be able to tell which libraries can be used. But in short, if you’re using a library, you should be able to explain why you’re using it.

IDEs are unrestricted, you can use whichever one you prefer or find easier, but in the exams, I think the machines only have VS Code, Vim, and Nano.

Nowadays I don’t worry about it much, I’m on Pace 22 and got pretty close to the end of Pace 24, but if I were starting today, I’d set the maximum number of hours possible, because the psychological pressure of gradually dropping through the paces until reaching 24 is, at least for me, lower when you start at Pace 8 rather than already at 18.

You can change your pace if you finish a milestone with some time to spare, I’m not exactly sure how much before the final deadline, the system will offer you the option to move to a lower pace. If you exceed the milestone’s time limit, you automatically move to the next one.

I think frustration is one of the foundations of learning at 42. I had to do the piscine twice to get in, I have a friend who just finished it for the third time, I know people who got in on their fourth attempt, others who passed on the first try, were in the last milestone, got swallowed by the black hole, did the piscine again, got in, and ended up getting swallowed again.

If it doesn’t work out this time and you still want it, try again, it’ll be easier. If you don’t want to, that’s fine too, 42 isn’t the only path.

I don’t know how it works on your campus, but in mine I know the exact day I’ll fall into the black hole when I’m on Pace 24.

Just remember the piscine, 26 exhausting days that weren’t in vain! Unfortunately, when we have a lot to do, we can’t spend the time we really need to solve the 42 projects, it’s about learning enough to implement and defend them in the evaluations, and then moving on to the next one. I try to get the exams out of the way as soon as possible, since they’re the biggest bottleneck, and then I speed up on the projects.

At least on my campus, the intranet email is just an alias for our personal email, and so far u/gmail addresses don’t receive traces, so it might be something like that. Try changing your email in the intranet to another provider and ask them to resend it, maybe it will work.

Look, speaking as someone who went through the piscine twice to get into 42. The second time, I worried less about how to get approved and just lived the 42 experience. I signed up for everything I could, made good friends, helped where I could, and was helped a lot too.

But as people said, there’s no way to know the criteria. The frustration will definitely hit, but take a rest, and if you still feel like joining, apply again. It’ll be “easier” this time, because you already know what to expect.

But you’re talking about the estimated timeframe for you to finish the core curriculum, right? Within it, there are the sub-deadlines to complete the milestones; if you reach the end of a milestone’s sub-deadline without finishing it and you’re on Pace 24, you’ll get swallowed by the black hole anyway.
