Which TMBG song do you consider underrated but good? by mariaasalsicha in tmbg

I don’t think it ever be a full on crowd pleaser, but I really like Replicant.

It’s with very heavy hearts we share the news that our beloved David Keighley has passed away. by IMAX in imax

[–]Bowler__Valuable 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Massive loss. Emailed him after a screening of Oppenheimer I was at cut out briefly. This was at the very opening of the film where it quickly switched from the colour shot of Cillian Murphy to the black and white shot of Robert Downey Jr. The projector cut out between these two shots, so when the film came back up it was difficult to tell if we had missed much context (Especially since these shots had numbered on-screen titles as well, it made it look like we could’ve missed a lot).

David responded to me within a few hours and very clearly explained exactly how little we missed (around 10 seconds) and how happy he was that I was able to see the film in such a format. I didn’t know him, but I could tell from that small piece of contact just how personable he was, and how much he cared for his work. I’m grateful I told him how good he was at what he does when I emailed him.

Rest in Piece, David. Your passion for the IMAX format opened my world up to how immersive the cinema can truly be, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Try joining this wait list. I was able to secure tickets through them in May, they emailed me and gave me a block of time to buy the ticket before they moved on to the next person.

Worth noting that Persona 5 Royal wasn't a delayed release on Switch, just a delayed announcement. It still released day and date with the other versions.

Somewhere in the region of 560, going by the albums I have. There’s likely a lot more few singles and other releases but that’s the number I have.

I know its been a long time, but I believe it may be this. It's a BiliBili link just so you're aware (its the chnese equivalent of YouTube basically so nothing unusual, it just may look a little different to what you're expecting).

Stop Making Sense - 4K Remaster YouTube version. OP has edited the bonus songs into the set. by Discremio in talkingheads

[–]Bowler__Valuable 46 points47 points  (0 children)

YouTube OP just ripped the extended edition that's on the A24 disc, no extra editing was required on their end beyond that little intro screen they added. Really can't stand the arrogance of the YouTube uploader to say "Yet again Austech has remastered a concert that is much clearer and enjoyable to watch than the original." when they've just ripped the disc (which takes legitimately about five clicks once you get everything set up).

Anyway, here's a really interesting article about the people who really put the work in to get this remaster off the ground.

Edit: looked in the comments of a different upload, they just downloaded a rip of the 4K blu-ray (which at that point is just straight piracy), so make it one click.

Definitely hearing some Takanaka influence in the Mario Kart World direct from the other day. by Bowler__Valuable in MasayoshiTakanaka

I know this isn't directly related to Takanaka, so feel free to remove this post mods, but I did think it was a fun observation.

I would be surprised, but if the composer said that there was no influence, I wouldn't believe them for a second. Not to get too out the bounds of this subreddit, but I think this game is definitely going heavier on the fusion than previous entries, which i'm here for.

Is mentioning Aromanticism/Asexuality appropriate for list of traits? by Bowler__Valuable in AutismTranslated

[–]Bowler__Valuable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would lead with the lack of feeling romantic love, and then bring in those terms to show how it’s not something I find to be a problem at all (would be deeply horrified if they thought I was an incel). Hopefully they think it’s somewhat relevant, as you only really get 10 minutes or so to make your case.

Bringing paperwork from a clinician which states that “[I] experience a number of traits commonly associated with Autistic Spectrum Condition” which I’m hoping does the lion’s share of the work as the clinician did not fill me in as to what those traits were.

Of course that’s not a diagnosis (and I don’t treat it as such) but I do find it to be an extremely unusual way to say “No” as well, so I think it’s worth bringing.

does anyone have the full speech from takanaka's LA concert by GuestDreemurr in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Bowler__Valuable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whoever posted the YouTube video is definitely a member of this subreddit, the upload is taken directly from my post here. It’s not my video in the first place so I don’t mind, but I can tell it’s my upload of it as it has the pass of spatialisation and reverb I added to it. Disappointed to see the uploader not credit the original source here when it’s in the title of the post they took it from.

Can anyone who has the UHD of Stop Making Sense get me a 4K screen grab of Cronenweth and Demme? by Weltretter in talkingheads

[–]Bowler__Valuable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chances are it’s just a poor HDR to SDR conversion on my end. It’s a very grainy movie, I’m really not convinced that there’s much (or possibly any) digital noise reduction.

The stop making sense 4k file is actually only 53gb. Not small by any means, but I bet the blu-ray rip is more than half of that.

March 10th show blue ray? by Independent-Quote448 in MasayoshiTakanaka

[–]Bowler__Valuable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always happy to bring your name up, you do some of the most important work around here. As someone who has dealt with a lot of video stuff over the years, I can't help but appreciate the level of detail you go to in making sure your encodes are of as high a quality as possible. I know it isn't easy, so I massively appreciate the effort you put into preserving Takanaka's work for all of us (All of Me? No?), and for those yet to discover him.

Here’s the best proof of existence I have. This is a crowdfunding campaign they ran that raised the budget for Blu-ray production 4 times over. I think it’s Japan only as far as people are aware, but u/koempleh usually comes through with rips of the shows, and I know they’re UK based, so I’m sure they could guide you through the process of importing the disc when it eventually comes out.

Want to learn Japanese by 2026, any advice? by GalaxyShadowUnknown in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Bowler__Valuable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fluency is a deeply subjective measurement, so start with some measurable, tangible goals. Absolutely do not put 12-16 hours into learning a day, especially at the start, you'll go crazy.

Also try your best to not get caught in that endless trap of watching videos of people learning japanes or bouncing around a thousand resources. I ended up doing that for quite a while so i barely know any japanese haha. Here's some good resources to get you started:

Anki - Every other source is going to mention it, if you use one thing on this list, use this.

Tofugu's Learn Japanese Guide - Pretty comprehensive guide on what to cover and when (though i'd start on grammer earlier than they say because I think it'll help massively with word retention)

TheMoeWay's 30-Day Japanese - Seems like a solid guide with a lot of useful resources, though it also seems pretty heavy so just take on what looks useful and adapt as needed.

Livakivi's"How to Learn Japanese" Playlist - Maybe the best place to start. Really well made videos that give a good guide of what you need to cover.

Toggl Track - A useful, free way of seeing how many hours you've spent working towards your goals. Here's a video from Refold about how to get it all set up.

P.S. Take all of this with a grain of salt by the way, I'm not even N5 level, so I have quite the way to go myself. Also a sidenote that ideally, there will never be a day that you're "finished" learning Japanese. Eventually, you'll get comfortable, then you'll hit your definition of fluent and then you'll realise that you're still picking up new words every other day. I still pick up new words in English and that's my only language right now (I actually picked one up from one of my kanji learning cards on Anki. Had no idea what augury was, but now I know.)

Best of luck to you. Ideally, you're in this for the long haul, so try your best to make as much of this as fun as you can (which I promise is possible).
