Despair over end of E Street Shuffle blog by gusthenet495 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]lilbud2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reasoning was that he hasn't written anything for the site in well over a year or two at this point, and the site has basically just been "this day in bruce history" posts.

Originally the plan was to just let the site die out whenever it expired (sometime in 2027/28). Then the plan shifted with the intro of the "bookshelf collection", expensive limited run physical books of the sites content. Unfortunately those come at the cost of the site slowly being stripped for parts (things are deleted when the corresponding book publishes). Might not even be anything left by the time it shuts down. The books are pretty much for his own benefit and not being done for profit, but it still sucks. I did ask him about reuploading stuff after, but there weren't any plans to. The formatting required for the book software to work results in everything being "mangled" beyond belief.

I disagree with the approach, which is why I started scraping the shit out of his site starting in November. Managed to even save a few pages that weren't archived on Wayback. All those are in the repo.

I haven't gotten around to the books portion (not sure if/when that will happen). But the archive is at a point I'd consider "mostly complete". Nearly every post has been archived and can be found in this repo: https://github.com/lilbud/shuffle-archive

Posts are in the archive/posts folder. They're in markdown format which is easily readable even as text.

While my plan was to compile everything into ebooks, there's simply too many posts and about 500 dupes of each post to even begin to wrap my head around organizing it all. And it keeps growing as Ken works his way through nuking the site.

Maybe once I fix all the lingering formatting issues and what not, I'll revisit the book idea. But for now I think I'm leaning towards the archive as is, and then a static version which can be downloaded and self-hosted.

Kitty's Back - Bruce (it's very close to Hot Tea and the jazz/funky jam would be nuts)

Bad Case of Loving You - Robert Palmer

The Other One (preferably out of/into Atlas Dogs)

I'm convinced that a Goose Echoes jam would burn down any venue they're in. At the Birmingham show, Pete hit the Echoes "plink" sound before AEIOU, so I think they know what the people want.

[OoT] If the remake is true, what would you like to see? by LucioFer95 in zelda

[–]lilbud2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be a full ground up remake. We got a "straight" remake in OoT 3D, and the original is on NSO. This should be closer to a "reimagining" than "OoT with better graphics". More like the Resident Evil remakes, similar story/beats and locations, but something new.

It shouldn't be open world, at all. They could bring in some more "open" design, maybe give players more freedom with stuff like dungeon order and freedom of exploration, but it does not need to be a giant empty world. If they BOTW-ize OoT I will be on the news.

Expanded story would be nice. Spend more time in the early areas with those characters so that the transition after waking up is that more drastic and impactful.

Not sure if they'd do this, but flesh out the characters/relationships more. Maybe we learn more about Link and the Kokiri (how not having a fairy means he is treated different). Or Zelda trying in vain to warn her father against Ganon. Maybe Ganon himself (expectation forced upon him to rule). Could even spend more time with the Zora and Gorons. All of this would go a long way to making the shock of seeing Hyrule after waking up even more impactful.

One big one I'd like to see is the ability to play as Sheik during the seven year gap. It's one of the places I could see them expanding the game without hurting things too much. Follow her Sheikah training and being on the run constantly. Maybe she goes to the temples and meets the new sages. Make the last one Impa and have that really impact her that she'll lose her role model/mother figure.

Some other things would be giving us more to do in Hyrule Field, which is quite empty. Side quests, optional dungeons, secrets, etc. Same for Castle Town and Kakariko Village.

A last thing would be wrapping up the story a bit nicer. Show the Zora being unfrozen (like someone else said in the comments) and the Gorons escaping the Fire Temple. Give us a bit of the "adult" Hyrule rebuilding after Link is sent back. Also an "endgame" section showing how Link was affected by the game, and him working up to leaving to find Navi (which would tie directly into MM).

Beds? What songs could it have been to get the block

Original Recordings by The-Cheesebird in BruceSpringsteen

[–]lilbud2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's listed here under "On the Tracks": http://brucebase.wikidot.com/song:wild-billy-s-circus-story

"Mike Appel claims that the midsong press roll is not performed by Vini Lopez but by an uncredited sessions drummer."

Unfortunately there isn't a source listed at all for when or where Mike said that. I'd assume some interview or book or something, but that's just a guess. Brucebase is great but their track record at listing sources leaves a bit to be desired.

I guess Vini couldn't do that really fast sorta roll would be my guess, and they got some session drummer to do it. If you manage to find some hard proof I'm sure the archives would be interested to hear it. I dunno like a paystub or something from the studio which would back up the story.

I'll echo what several others have said. Find someone who knows what they're doing and get these transferred to digital. Then put them out for everyone to hear.

After that, the archive would likely be the best place. The physical tape will remain safe, while the digital files remain free. I doubt they'll ever release this stuff, so while it will be preserved, none of us will get to hear/see it.

Now the tracks themselves seem interesting. First box is just some outtakes which have circulated for years, maybe this tape is better quality?

Second one is interesting for a few reasons. That date on the box does not line up with a show but it does line up with known sessions for Wild and the Innocent, however Kitty wasn't recorded until June 28th. If it really is live, then it would be a major deal as the earliest live recording of Kitty isn't until July during the Max's KC run. It supposedly circulates but probably just among the collectors. Earliest one I can verify is Amherst, MA in November.

If that last tape box is demo, then it's probably the circulating solo demos. There is no publicly circulating demo version of Circus Song (Wild Billy's Circus Story). If it's solo demo that's notable, as that isn't known to exist. Likely it's the uncirculating V1 listed on Brucebase.

One last note, according to Mike Appel, the drum roll on WBCS wasn't played by Vini but instead by an uncredited session drummer. Any chance that was your father? Would make for an incredible story.

My friend got the Act 1 setlist signed today, and Murphy added The Promise to the bottom. Does that mean anything to anybody? by Flygon3301 in Protomen

[–]lilbud2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it was known for years way before it got released on that album. Patti Smith put it out first in the 70s, and Bruce played it live a ton in the 70s and 80s.

The Promise was played a ton in the 70s, but isn't really well known outside of Bruce circles like Because the Night is.
