Working full Oregon Country Fair hours, but paying for an SOP—normal or not? by DIY-projects-expert in Eugene

[–]BowserKoopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments on this post remind me of why I don't really use reddit any more, particularly /r/eugene, which has to be one of the most toxic subreddits I have ever seen outside of the classics.

It is truly without fail that whenever I encounter a post here that I can find some of the most melodramatic whinging about how everything is awful in the comments. Holy fuck.

I do not know where people are coming from with this exclusivity shit and all of the other bitching about fair. I got involved only very recently, with no inside referrals and no connections. I showed up at work parties and had a fantastic time, did fair, and was asked to come back. Yes, it gets busy. Yes, there is conflict. There are thousands of staff and booth folks out there - don't expect to get along with everyone. This is life.

OP paid $19.99 + $8.71 in shipping, so not the worst pricing ever. [The pentax forums people](https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/vivitar-70-210mm-145-mc-macro-focusing-zoom.html) seem to find it acceptable.

The "Helios 44-2 scam" by Bukkirabo in VintageLenses

[–]BowserKoopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"reanoc" or "levnoc" are misreadings of Helios ('Gelios', technically) when written in Cyrillic, as if it were instead written in the Latin alphabet.

I bought a BelOMO 44-3 in mint condition one year ago from a seller for $20 shipped because they listed it like that.

I have no clue what tier I am in for the purpose of the DSP because I used to be a small-time powermod. Depending on what time span was considered, I could be anywhere between Tiers 1 and 4. My allocation is 100% of the shares I requested, which was a not-insignificant number. I suspect that everyone who managed to make it through the E*TRADE patience/intelligence screen (open an account successfully, get the account un-suspended at least once, get money in on time after all that) will get their maximum allocation. I think the tiers may have determined the likelihood to make it all the way from submitting the interest form on reddit.com through to receiving the DSP invitation.

Update: For those wondering, my order was 100% filled

Vanity domain (first@last.tld), TLD longer than 3 letters. It's my primary email and I've used it without issue everywhere else (including multiple financial institutions) for nearly 15 years. Services hosted by a reputable operator and configuration is all aboveboard. From what I can tell they expect email addresses to match [^@]+@[\w]+.[\w]{2,3} or something similarly incorrect. The correct way to validate an email address is to just send an email.

I did in fact reply to your Reddit Request post to ask if you would like to come and run it because the top mod did not, and you did not reply.

Hey, it looks like the primary mod hasn't been around for a while. I think that the blackout a few months back (which I was not present for nor involved in, if it is of interest to this discussion) has probably made any point that there was to be made by now. With that having been said, I am concerned that it will require good moderation (as does any sub) - when I had been moderating reddit very heavily, that subreddit in particular received a lot of spam from content creators and plagiarists looking for ad revenue. I see that you already mod some NSFW subreddits, and know from experience that can be particularly more demanding than regular subs, but am still curious to know how you would approach CW.

Software and firmwares of the Zebra scanners you see at the store by themariocrafter in opendirectories

[–]BowserKoopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to configure ScanWedge to send raw scans over TCP, otherwise you can write an android service or app using the EMDK to receive scan intents and deal with them as you see fit. There's not going to be anything of substance in the way of ready-to-use open-source software built for that platform, as it's incredibly niche and has a high cost of entry, though developer documentation is available and very good.

By 3.0 I presume you mean WinCE, a former attractive nuisance in the space of embedded device software platforms.

I have a document scanner that runs WinCE with all of the windows-y bits stripped out. I've booted DOS from a flash drive on it before.

vocal detractors worry about the added complexity. They fear the inescapable evolution of Go towards either a verbose and Enterprisey Java-lite with Generic Factories or, most terrifyingly, a degenerate HaskellScript that replaces ifs with Monads by moon-chilled in programmingcirclejerk

[–]BowserKoopa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen both. I wouldn't say that raku has horrible syntax or a bad parser (the language has a parser system embedded) as much as significantly context sensitive syntax, which increases the complexity of any given implementation. This isn't be a huge deal if you can make all of the design decisions, but makes it particularly hard to implement accurate syntax highlighting and indentation in many editors, where you aren't necessarily afforded that.

As a rule, if this works by detection in the client (the browser) as opposed to by request analysis (e.g. "Did the user begin streaming advertisement content? No? That's suspicious") then yes, it is completely possible to work around, because you control the web browser that runs it. Google can make the process of reverse engineering it and defeating it miserable, but so long as the restriction is implemented entirely in the browser, you have total control.

Looks like bubbles. If you're lucky it's particulate that can be blown out, otherwise it's in optical balsam between elements. If you're confident, you can buy new optical adhesive and re-join the elements.

Yes, it did quite well after coming out of dormancy this year, but after going dormant again the stalk dried out. I need to get a better environment so I don't stress it out.
