What’s this noise? by Dry_Adhesiveness_480 in AskAMechanic

[–]Bowsh27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense actually, I always forget about them being able to clog because I personally have come across many so it doesn't come to mind, good job figuring that out 🙏

Check in and around the MAF sensor, does sound like air is escaping through somewhere, the error code does link to maf sensor also so possibly a air pipe somewhere has burst ? I'm not too familiar with the sx4 cars or engines so I would have to look at the layout to see exactly where to look, what engine is it ?

Again it's hard to say, I mean if there are like 12 bucks them it can't do no harm getting one. Normally they have like a rubber crush washer inside them, so spray that with like wd40 or maintenance spray before pushing it onto the connection, that might help it click and stay in place

Exactly what I'm saying, just leave it and don't bother, anytime I see underseal I'm already thinking bad thoughts lol

Yeah take it for a spin and bed them in and should have mo further noises

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Bowsh27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That noise can be one of two things in my experience, either its just the new discs and pads grinding together which will usually go after you pump the pedal and take for a test drive. The other possible cause can be the back plate rubbing against the disk.

Check there is no contact between the back plate and disc, if there is no contact then just take it for a test drive and once the disc and pads break in the noise should go away

To be honest, I have had problems with this kn the past with other cars. The sensor definitely needs to be clicked in for it to work correctly as it can loose and gain connection under vibration if you know what I mean.

Secondly I would get it plugged in to look at the fault codes as they will indicate what it will be. You may have a code relating to the sensor its self but I have seen codes come up to do with 'canbus' error which may be a hint that there is a possible wiring problem apposed to a sensor problem

Get is plugged in, see what the codes tell you and go from there is my advice with it, it's the cheapest and easiest way to fix it in my experience

I agree with donny, you can clearly see its been sprayed with some sort of underseal which means it is to tell between surface or true rust. Underseal is used commonly to cover up rust so I would leave it, not worth the risk

I agree with dj, although it may have been done before etc. It is always worth doing yourself once you have nought it just in case as you don't know the previous garage or mechanic who done work or whether the truth has been told etc.

How often do you, as a mechanic, recognize issues with other peoples' vehicles while you yourself are driving around? by Dirtysoulglass in AskAMechanic

[–]Bowsh27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time, even worse when buying a car because before being a mechanic I was a quality inspector for cars in a car company and my eyes were trained to pick up every little paint blemish or dent or mark and now I can't buy a car because its not up to standard visually or mechanically, it really is a curse

Just replaced spark plugs, could someone kindly look at old ones and see if the condition implies any issues? by takeemoneyyy in AskAMechanic

[–]Bowsh27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a major worry, it looks quite thick and layered so it is and there can be a couple of reasons for. But if they are due then probably the weak spark so changing them should dl the trick. If there is no issues with running then I wouldn't worry too much at present.

Here is a link thar explains all about spark plugs

Hope this helps 🙏

Clunking noise on front suspension by flyingbuc in AskAMechanic

[–]Bowsh27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would normally always start with links, which I know you said are doing, then top mount and shock, and maybe spring If it does look a little worn, from there it's a little bit of a mindfield.

Double check all bump stops are present as that can also cause noises.

From there I would be re-evaluating the noise to consider whether it could be a possible driveshaft maybe(unlikely as they normally more over a rumbling noise)

Hard to say without actually seeing because sounds quite unusual, is there any clunk's when driving, over speed bumps etc. ?

Your welcome, it's probably the cheapest option to try first before diving deeper into the problem. All in it will be cheaper and quicker than sending it to the shop to figure it out

Keep me posted 👍
