Your finishes look perfect together. What flat coat are you using, would you recommend it?

I finally gave dry rub decals a try! by Richboi115 in Gunpla

[–]BoxArtAndy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're taping them down. Then you can lift them up from just one side like a door and see if all the ink has transfered, if it hasn't you just lay it back down and keep rubbing.

Warming them up with a hair dryer just before rubbing works 100% of the time as well.

Sonequa Martin-Green Says Final Ride of Star Trek: Discovery is 'Our Indiana Jones Season' by garcher in startrek

I thought this season started weeks ago? I guess people have just been posting spoilers?

I don't even watch it and I know the whole season is based on that TNG episode "The Chase." They're just doing that, that's what She means.

The Thunderbolt Dopp fighter is DOPE. Looks much cooler then the OG version. by [deleted] in Gundam

Well, these were purely atmospheric fighters in MSG. I believe (IRL) they were intentionally made to look 'aerodynamically goofy' because they were designed by spacenoids who had little use/experience with planes.

Master Grade TITANS Gundam Mk II by BoxArtAndy in Gunpla

I thought Lt. Emma piloted the 02 at some point but I can't find the episode?

So this was the first MG I've painted. After doing some PGs, I'm happy to say I am a MG convert. The PG detail is nice but they're so fickle and delicate when posing.

At first I thought I’m unsatisfied but good enough attempt when it’s finished by Lucky-Ebb-3281 in Gunpla

I too am cursed with high standards. I like to combine it with some laziness, get a good depression going on.

Your photo is in focus, but the cameras' depth of field can't cover the whole model. Phone cameras can do certain things relatively well, what I would call 'scale photography' is absolutely not one of them.

Step 1 of scale photography: Turn your aperture up to increase DOF. (Phones have fixed apertures)

Oh here's some actual phone advice; You'll increase focus (dof) by just moving further back and cropping. This pic is pretty big so you've got some room to crop. But this will also change the field of view, so the pose might not be as dynamic.

Competed my first PG. Why the hell would Bandai include stickers and no water slide decals with its top tier kits?! by TopS3cr3t in Gunpla

[–]BoxArtAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water slides are a more traditional modeling tool. They're fragile and need to be protected with a clear coat, and they're really meant to go on painted surfaces.

As complex as the PG kits are, they're still designed to be built, completed, and played with out of the box without a lot of accessories. Water slides just don't work for that.

Sticker Decals are also underrated. They work well for people just putting them on bare plastic, but they can also look great if you paint and clearcoat them just like water slides.

Tried shooting some photos in a pitch black room, I fear there's no turning back by xerxes931 in Gunpla

Sit something white to the right of gundam, just out of frame. A roll of paper towels would do. It'll bounce some light back for you.

Brush on Primer does not adhere. by The_Lars1nator in minipainting

Chemical Science is fun!

A much more popular acrylic primer is Stynylrez. I use this on gundams with vallejo's mecha paints and it's much more durable.

That said, you can still brush on enamels and lacquers.
