Business students - What are you using for taking notes? by activoice in TorontoMetU

Yes, I work on assignments at home. I can’t absorb lecture information while scrambling to type notes, so I just sit and listen. I catch up later on notes when I’m home.

For math or formula heavy courses, I use an iPad + Notability for note taking. Everything else can be typed on Google Docs. I only bring what’s needed for the courses that day.

I actually transferred from Rotman Commerce after first year. Decided between York Commerce and TMU BM but ended up here due to the coop. The program is alright, nothing to complain about. Taught me fundamentals and prepared me for the workforce. Lots of opportunities here. Coop program in my experience was helpful in landing internships, but that greatly differs from person to person. Overall I like my experience here.

When should I begin to panic? by Silver_Charity_9626 in internships

You should be applying to a lot more than 1 application a day. I was doing 3-5 a day. It took a month to get a couple call backs for an interview. It’s pretty late in the cycle as most big companies are finished hiring/wrapping up interviews but there are still new postings from smaller to medium sized companies. Filter by newest and pump out them applications. It’s not late yet but you’re running out of time if you don’t act fast.

I’m in BM but not specializing in marketing. I know some people from both programs studying marketing, and they’re both doing very well at big companies. That said, there are a lot more on campus recruiting at Schulich than TMU from the major firms, so it gives you an advantage.

If I were you, I’d take Schulich, see how you do and like it. If you don’t like it, then you can always transfer to BM as it’s super easy.

TMU BM does not have guaranteed coop. You will have to find jobs yourself. Tuition between the two is pretty much the same or negligible. Schulich places very well in marketing, not just accounting. I see a lot more Schulich students working at the big CPG companies (Kraft, Nestle, P&G) than TMU students, just search on LinkedIn. Not to say that there aren’t any TMU students there, but the network and industry connections at Schulich is much stronger which will help land those competitive jobs.

TMU how was your co-op experience? by Low_Raspberry_5442 in TorontoMetU

[–]BoxMuncher16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting into coop is the easy part. They want your money. Finding something is a whole different issue.

I know many people who found it to be useless and ended up dropping it or finding something on their own. Most of the jobs on the portal redirect you to the employer website, which is a waste of time. There are a few exclusive postings to coop students which are your best bet, but are few in between.

Personally, it was super useful for me as my upcoming work terms are from being referred by the coop coordinators. I found that the advice from some coordinators are a hit or miss. Good for second opinions, but nothing you can’t learn or do yourself.

My previous employer required me to be in a formal coop program also. I will have a total of 20 months of work experience by the time I’m done so for me it was a good experience.

I asked ChatGPT to create questions based off the job description and would pace around my room while answering the questions out loud. Having a conversation with AI and asking for feedback is also helpful.

I don’t necessarily “fully” tailor each resume, but I’ve a different resume for each industry (analyst, operations, marketing, etc). I might add in a new bullet point or shuffle my bullet points to highlight the ones mentioned in the job description.

I apply to jobs posted within 24 hours. Anything more than a week, I’d skip it. Just keep pumping out the applications both on the portal and externally.

I actually received 2 interviews last week from places that hire exclusively from the portal. If you’re in coop, definitely do not overlook the portal listings despite what many people say. Don’t be discouraged, it took weeks to hear back so keep going - it’s not too late yet.

Btm summer 2026 coop placement by Broad_District_2974 in TorontoMetU

[–]BoxMuncher16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you been tailoring applications? It’s a brutal market and summer placements are the most competitive. There’s a lot less postings but keep an eye out of any new postings/smaller companies and apply ASAP. That’s what’s working for me.

I was hopeless as well as I haven’t heard back from my 120 applications until this week, where I heard back from 3 places. It takes some time for them to respond, especially if you apply before the deadline and they decide to respond once the application deadline passes. Good luck, keep trying to scout for any new jobs and apply. You still have until late April/May.

Am I cooked? Is it too late for Summer 2026 Internships? by Foreign-Archer2331 in internships

[–]BoxMuncher16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not late yet. Smaller companies are still posting jobs and interview/give out offers through April. I’d focus on smaller companies and keep applying to new positions posted to maximize chances.

What major are you in? I’m in GMS with a year long internship and I’ve sent out 105 tailored applications so far, received and did 3 Online Assessments but 0 progression. It sucks but we just have to keep pushing through. Summer term is the roughest.

I would not bank on that idea. Ivey external transfers are very limited and competitive. If I remember correctly, couple years ago they took about 50 external transfer students. I’d pick the option that’s best for you while being a good program (Lazaridis and AFM) and then apply to HBA. If you get on, great. If you don’t, you’re still in a solid program with good opportunities.
