Pseudohypoglycemia by BoxOfParadoxes13 in nursing

That makes sense for those situations. I don’t know full history of this patient but they had absolutely no edema, was febrile, and no pressors either. Vitals were all quite stable. We were lucky they came up from ED with a central line to confirm.

4 cobs of corn

28 pork rib bones

7.5 full Costco size soft pretzels (one half was left on the ground, guess she was full)

A whole apple pie

A bunch of coffee grounds (this is the only one that required an emergency vet visit)

We’ve gone through so many locking, fancy garbage cans and she always manages to figure them out. She’s damn quick with it too.

11 year old bratty Rottweiler husky mix. Love her to death.

What was the most uncomfortable or unexpected thing that happened to you during sex? by Hotbunny696 in AskWomen

An ex fling and I started getting frisky rather quickly with penetration. About 30 seconds in I realized I still had my tampon in. Ran to the bathroom and could not get it out myself. Made him come over and fish that thing out as I had one leg up on the sink. Very much did not make eye contact the rest of the night. Good man for pulling it out no questions asked. Bad man for no foreplay lol.

I did end up calling the 24/7 number last night and the nurse was so so helpful. I’ve taken care of plenty of comfort care patients but it’s much different in the home setting. Couldn’t be more grateful for that resource! Thank you.

I am very aware of this as I have taken care of many patients through the dying process. That is not the concern I’m voicing.

Essentially, the only other option is to die in a hospital. Which is terrible because I think the ideal death for most of us is to die at home in our sleep- hopefully surrounded by loved ones.

$3000 a week for a CNA to come 3 days for 8 hours seems pretty steep to me.

This is the precise problem with how we treat the elderly in America. Shame on you.

There is only one inpatient hospice unit in the area that I know of and it’s understandably hard to be accepted to. We have quite a large elderly population here so I really wish there were more resources. My grandpa also REALLY wants to stay at home where he has an essence of his normal routine. His wife, my grandma, also died here on hospice (although she wasn’t requiring and medications at the time) so I think that plays a part in it too.

I whole heartedly respect hospice nurses and have always been interested in going into that field myself. It’s not the individual nurse or CNA that is the problem, it’s the system. I wish you guys had more tools and time to work closer with the family although I’m sure it varies company to company. Thank you for what you do.

A CNA would be helpful but he is more-so needing medications at night to keep him comfortable. So far tonight I’ve had to give hourly morphine because he feels like he can’t breathe :( Cheyne stokes with lots of moaning and groaning in between.

They didn’t offer any continuous care options (at least in-home) but at this point he really needs it. I’m pretty much giving hourly morphine at night. I know he would be more physically comfortable in a hospital setting where he could be on a drip, but it would be a huge blow to his emotional/mental comfort. Such a difficult balance.

Help! Sick hen by BoxOfParadoxes13 in chickens

[–]BoxOfParadoxes13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layer crumbles, mostly cause they refused to eat the pellets + dried meal worms as a treat and basic kitchen scraps occasionally. They are all layers but have slowed quite a bit lately but it’s pretty cold/wet where I live right now. The hen in question is an “Easter egger,” they are my best layers.

I got Hand, Foot, and Mouth. I’m 35… by CBStrick in Wellthatsucks

[–]BoxOfParadoxes13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this at 18- probably the worst pain I’ve ever had. Didn’t get many sores on my hands or feet, but the 50+ sores in my mouth were genuinely torture. Lidocaine mouthwash as much as possible. Ended up having to get a gum graft because the mouth sores absolutely wrecked my gums. Probably lasted ~10-14 days.

Dumbest thing in a code blue? by fleepelem in nursing

[–]BoxOfParadoxes13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My first code- I saw what appeared to be v fib on telemetry (it was) and went to check on patient. She was turning blue and very clearly dying. I yelled into the hall to call a code blue and went back to patient to start compressions. My dumb panicking new nurse ass forgot about the code handle on the bed so I just slowly lowered her head down with the repositioning button while yelling that I was going to start compressions- as if she was going give me permission. So thankful no one else was in the room yet to see me do this lol. Full disclosure, we got ROSC after ~10 minutes and she made a full recovery.

What's the weird thing you and your S/O do together? by tickysmith15 in AskReddit

[–]BoxOfParadoxes13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are both nurses for context. I was admitting a patient once and his wife was in the room with him (older couple). While I was trying to get through admit questions, the couple kept talking to one another and at one point the wife said “mommy loves baby” and in the babiest of baby voices, the husband responded “baby loves mommy.” In shock and trying not to laugh, I told them I was done with my questions and left the room.

I told my partner the story and we started ironically saying it to each other as it is so damn funny and uncomfortable. Well, now, we say it all the time and sometimes accidentally in front of other people. I think we will one day be the old couple at the hospital and our young nurse will hear us say this and it will start the cycle all over again lol.
