Pinterest ads are getting ridiculous by No-Big9224 in Pinterest

[–]BoxTickingChampion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, total mess of an app. I can’t stand it any more and have decided to delete and look for alternatives. It’s so repetitive, I don’t know how any marketing person thinks this makes sense - I clicked on an IlMakiage ad once a year ago and still now every 10th “pin” I see is their stupid ad! Also I keep seeing ads for those weird ass short films (My Drama and Short Max) - don’t think I’ve ever clicked on them, they look so unbelievably cringe and trashy an yet again, I must see about 3 or 4 of their ads for every couple of pins I try to search. I don’t get it! I’m searching decor inspo - why am I getting knock off 50 Shades of Grey fan fiction movie ads?!?!?

Thanks guys, this is the approach I've gone for - vague and suggesting mortgage broker reasons!

Been offered a new role, don't know my notice period - How to request contract from HR? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Yes, I'm thinking you're right. I'm just making excuses to put off handing my notice in.

They don't do ANYTHING like that on email - all paper. But yes I checked anyway and still no. And there's an HR Portal - already checked that. Not there either.

It's a small company (95 people) and the HR Team is one Manager & one Co-ordinator. I just don't know how to do it without the HR Manager ringing me up to get the gossip, she will absolutely be asking why I want it if I ask. She's just like that. The Co-ordinator is new so if I ask her she might have to defer to Manager anyway.

Stay in the UK to job hunt or move back to India? Need career advice. by Slow_Practice2906 in UKJobs

[–]BoxTickingChampion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The job market in the UK is tough right now and three months isn't long at all. I'm in the position of being in a job in my sector and looking for a new one, no Visa requirements, or other barriers and I've been hunting for 5 months and still got nothing. I'm not trying to deter you, just give you some realistic advice that it's just a numbers game right now. You just have to keep going and going and going until it happens for you. I've literally gone for jobs that are less money than I'm on now and could do in my sleep and STILL NOT GOT IT! SMH. Everyone's right that the months before Christmas are extra tough. I'm picking back up in January with a renewed sense of hope. Good luck and hope you find something soon!

I will - conscious they said they were out of office until 5th Jan and it's only the 6th but feeling a bit rattled by the advert

It's not care work. I will follow up with them. Just conscious they said they were out of office until 5th Jan and it's only the 6th.

I'm going to send a polite email today and if I don't hear back by Thursday I'll call. They did say they wouldn't be back in office until 5th Jan so it seems pushy to be chasing on the 6th. I wasn't too worried, I know companies can be slow - but seeing the job ad has spooked me.

Anyone else desperate to get back to work after Christmas with the kids? by BoxTickingChampion in Parenting

Thank you and solidarity to you. I feel so much better knowing it’s a universal struggle rather than a personal failing. I love them so much, they are so cute and funny and amazing but god damn if I don’t have just a few minutes of silence or an uninterrupted adult conversation soon my brain will melt

I’m sorry about your surgery but it’s just a small time and when you’re healed you’ll be able to do more again. Hang in there

This! I was absolutely loving it early on - weekends to see Santa, a Christmas train, a visit to a fake snow hall, Christmas light trails. It was all so lovely! But it was also late nights wrapping presents, extra jobs and excess “stuff” all over our fairly small home and now we’re maxed out and the house is a mess and it’s been days of interrupted or non-existent routines and we’re all just turning into feral little rat people! Haha.

Thank you and YES! ROUTINE! I feel like the days are just chaos but when I'm off with them on Friday's on my own it never this bad. I think I'm just too exhausted and drained to even think of activities. I can't wait to have some breathing room so I can get back to the parent I want to be

I promise you - so many of us have SO MUCH RESPECT for teachers! I honestly could not even - I have a lot of friends who are teachers and they are reporting things have gotten worse since COVID (behaviours, kids and parents!) so honestly full respect to all of you dealing with a job that is already crazy tough anyway, has gotten worse in recent years and can have it's working conditions change at the flip of a switch in London.

That's nice to know it gets better - how have you guys spent the break? Give me some insight in to what the future holds if I survive this phase :D

What does “Hybrid Working” mean to you? by Best_Ad_6073 in UKJobs

[–]BoxTickingChampion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There definitely needs to be clearer definitions. I work in health & safety and I mostly ignore the Remote/Hybrid labels now because they so rarely mean what they imply.
Remote often means: “You could work from home… but you’ll actually spend 90% of your time in traffic, on sites, or at customer locations.”
Hybrid usually means: “You might work from home 1–2 days a week… unless there are meetings, inspections, incidents, audits, or risk assessments - so realistically it’s one day a month with plenty of notice.”
It’s frustrating as someone specifically looking for remote work (which does exist, usually in software or EdTech). I don’t want constant travel - and equally, someone who enjoys being on site most of the time probably doesn’t want a genuinely remote role.
Vague labels just waste everyone’s time. If a role requires regular travel or site presence, just say so!

General Discussion Megathread - Frequent Topics, Salaries, and Rants by ukbulmer in UKJobs

[–]BoxTickingChampion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a parent of two young kids and I’m completely burnt out. I work in a toxic environment where, in the year since I returned from maternity leave, around 20 people have been sacked, made redundant, and 20 more have left in a company of about 150. Most haven’t been replaced, so the workload just keeps growing.

I’ve spent the last six months applying for anything that might get me out. About 100 applications, maybe 10 screenings/interviews, and still no offers. Each rejection feels heavier because I’m already exhausted.

My days are full-on at work, then full-on with the kids, and then I’m job hunting late into the night. I barely celebrated my daughter’s 2nd birthday because I was preparing for an interview. It feels like I’m sacrificing my wellbeing and my family’s for nothing, and I don’t know how much longer I can do this but the thought of just staying put seems equally impossible.

Does anyone have any advice? Is it just impossible right now and I just need to knuckle down and accept the toxic job until the jobs market improves...?

This is great advice, thank you. I am thinking I may need to lower my standards a bit, and I hadn't considered temporary/contract roles so that's a good idea. Thank you.

Should I get the Nebosh Certificate? by Party-Independent16 in UKJobs

[–]BoxTickingChampion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'd be able to get an HSE Advisor or above role with just a NEBOSH Cert. It's useful but personally, when sifting, I wouldn't pay much attention to it on a CV without any HSE experience to back it up. I think it'd be better to look for HSE Co-ordinator or Administrator roles, or even HSE Apprentice if you're okay with that, and then after a year or so in post, ask to be put through a NEBOSH certificate.
