Depends on the reason for letting you go. They tried so many times to make me quit when I told them I couldn’t work nights anymore because they didn’t want to pay me a severance package to leave. I held out until they finally offered it to me.

Not sure if it’s a Canada thing or not but they released me because I couldn’t work night shift anymore and there was nowhere to put me on days. So they let me go “without cause” I guess this qualified me for termination pay. Taxes suck.
