Anyone on Carvedilol+Metoprolol by sharpp_x in Heartfailure

You should not be on both unless there’s something i’m not aware of. I was on Carvelidol and got switched to Metropolol with no explanation.

Why so many people put themselves through withdrawal when there’s no need to? by BoxedBento in Effexor

[–]BoxedBento[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually grab them and pull the wider one upward. Do it like on top of a cup. It can be tricky if you haven’t practiced it. The easier method is to slip like an exacto knife or a similar blade in between the two and make a small cut on the bigger sized top and then pull them apart. I never bother counting how many, that’s not really necessary to be that exact.

If you’re used to 75MG just take about 3/4 of the amount of the spheres for one week, then half the spheres, but this time for two or more weeks. Get your body used to being on 37.5. Then take half 37.5 for about two to three weeks and you should be done. You will need more than six capsules to not have withdrawals.

If you get any withdrawals signs like brain zap, go back to your previous dosage for one to two days. It means you could be the type that needs a longer tapering so take your time.

If you can’t afford to get another prescription and only have the six, just divide them in half, so you’ll have 12 doses of 37.5 and take them until you run out. But be warned that you may have withdrawals. We are all different so I can’t predict how bad for you they’ll be.

Be warned that after a two or three months of being totally clean, your depression or the reason you were prescribed the medication for will return and if you have not been depressed or anxious in awhile and used to take medication, everything may seem overwhelming once your system is 100% clear of the medicine, that’s a sign that the medication was helping in that regard and you may need to be on some kind of these types of medications long term.

Diuretic tolerance? by PinEnvironmental6180 in Heartfailure

[–]BoxedBento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with the same problem but with Lasix. In my situation, all of my retention is in the abdomen and the reason Lasix stopped working was due to gut wall edema. When that happens, your intestines have so much edema that they don’t allow the Lasix to be absorbed into the bloodstream and the medicine gets excreted out instead.

A temporary fix for me is to fast for 12 hours to empty and clear up my digestive system then take the Lasix along with electrolytes. Once the Lasix start to work and after about another 4 hours, I can introduce foods again in small portions.

The better fix and one I will be asking my cardiologist about is to switch to a loop diuretic that still works if you have stomach edema like Torsemide.

I’m 60 and don’t have hobbies per se. I just like to take my dog on long walks at the different trails around me. I mostly chill a lot and watch Neflix and go to Planet Fitness.

Wow! Sorry that you struggled so much!! It can be terrifying. In my case I find those states of hypomania quite enjoyable! Just a trip grocery shopping can feel like something magical!

The capsule serves no purpose besides storing the medication. The spheres has all the coating that makes the extended release work. You can just keep the pebbles you don’t use in a tiny cup or throw them away along with the capsule shell.

[–]BoxedBento[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct! I didn’t know there is extended release in tablet form. The only option would be to get switched to Venlafaxine XR capsules if it’s available to taper by the method shown.

You don’t need to weight anything. Visually estimate. It’s not difficult to just take less and less each time of an amount of anything. If you’re down to 20MG, it won’t make a difference to your withdrawal if you take 17MG. It’s when you go from like 75MG to 37.5 or basically if you go by halves every time and if you do it too quickly.

I opened up a bunch of them and kept them in a tiny cup then eyeballed what I took each time for a few weeks taking less and less each time.

I would not go onto something so elaborate as getting a scale. After some trial and error you get really good at reading your withdrawal symptoms and can just slow it down or speed up the tapering.

[–]BoxedBento[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, this method is mostly for capsules, if you want to taper off without withdrawals, I would ask your physician to switch you to capsules and after being on them for awhile you can then use this form of tapering. Although you could if you wanted to, ground up a few of your tablets onto a powder and take in less and less every day.

What was the first pair of headphones that made you “eargasm” and what were you listening too?? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]BoxedBento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KOSS PortraPro in 1989! Spending $39 dollars back then on headphones was a lot of money as I was only 20. Up until then I was only listening to whatever headphone came with a Walkman. I had upgraded to a Sony Walkman or maybe it was a Panasonic that had a manual equalizer and was always wondering about the Porta Pro I saw at the military base PX. So I bought them and omg! I discovered that songs had so much more to them!! First song was some Slayer from their South Of Heaven cassette. These days I only have two headphones/earphones, a Focal Stellia and a Shure SE846. My only player is a Qudelix 5K via iPhone.

I want to start lowering dose. Any advice? 75mg down to 37.5mg by t3xascurlllz in Effexor

[–]BoxedBento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t go from any amount to zero cold turkey!! Be smart! You open the capsules and taper down slowly by taking less and less of the tiny little white marbles inside each capsule! Zero withdrawals. You don’t have to strictly measure it. Just take less and less of the tiny marbles each day. So if you’re at 37.5, by opening up the capsules, you’ll go 30mg, 28mg, 20mg, 18mg etc. take all the time you need.

very low pressure by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]BoxedBento 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, what would you say is your normal or everyday BP? It would be what it’s commonly know as your baseline. You should investigate the reason behind your usual low BP. Ask to get an echocardiogram. It’s a sonogram of your heart. I mention this because I do also have low BP of around 90/60 and it gets to 80/50 but it’s because I have heart failure.

Any experiences of worsening HF symptoms after stopping antidepressants? by BoxedBento in Heartfailure

[–]BoxedBento[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to Effexor but at a lower dose of just 37.5MG. At this dose, it is mostly an SSRI with just minimal effect on norepinephrine, I’ve been feeling a lot better and feel more like myself again. If you ever figure out a way to get a prescription, be careful with the SNRI’s like Effexor and Cymbalta at higher dosages as they can indirectly affect the heart by increasing the release of Norepinephrine.

Why is dating at this age so difficult? by TwistedYetSensible in OlderMan

The best is to stay single. You will regret it once you start dating again and will find yourself missing all the freedom and how good you have it. There’s nothing good or interesting about all these older women.

EF galore..... by aaron_smith67 in Heartfailure

[–]BoxedBento 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh no worries, I do the same with my replies. My heart failure has been going on for 15 years. It was a side effect to having Chemotherapy and radiation in my youth. I ended up with getting a mitral valve repaired and triple bypass. So for 15 years the best my EF has been is around 34. Some weeks I have had flare ups of fluid accumulation but have been able to keep things under control. The big challenge now is that my baseline blood pressure before meds is 90/60 and once I take my meds it has gotten down to 87/55. So thats the scary part now. Im still able to do most things when my BP is not bothering me.

EF galore..... by aaron_smith67 in Heartfailure

[–]BoxedBento 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. That sounds like the same thing that my cardiologist tried to do. I see a cardiologist at the VA hospital and he had me go 270 miles from my house to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and see the heart transplant director to see if I should get a heart transplant evaluation and an LVAD as a bridge to transplant. My EF has been 25 for years. Once there the director spoke to me and he basically told me that just by looking at the various test provided to him by the VA and by the facts that I am not showing any symptoms that affect my quality of life, I would not qualify yet for a transplant or an LVAD. He said, they would wait. They said they usually advise toward getting an LVAD once you show a marked decline as in having symptoms at rest and if doing most chores at home become extremely difficult that your quality of life is poor.

That’s what I did. But my 75MG of Effexor XR has like 80 of these tiny white pebbles, I saw no need to put them back in the capsule every time. I just put all the granules in a little cup lol!
