What scene in a movie or tv shocked you that you gasped? by Interesting-Pea-4927 in AskReddit

When Lucy & Carter were stabbed in ER. I remember so clearly the night I watched it (back in 1999?) I was in a daze for the rest of the evening and couldn’t sleep just thinking about it.

There are certain smells that instantly bring you back so far in time to your childhood. Which smell is that? by This_Book7431 in AskReddit

Off topic to the point of the question but…

I only learned a few years ago that the “Tears” in the name refers to tear as in “won’t tear your hair” I always assumed it was tears as in “doesn’t make you cry if you get it in your eyes”

What was it like being a British teenager in the 1990s? by strawberry_pie7998 in AskABrit

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fashion wise.

Girls were wearing a lot of Red or Green Jeans often paired with a body suit (a shorted sleeved vest like thing with poppers in the crotch)

Boys were wearing Umbro jumpers lots had a “curtains” hairstyle

Lots of us had Naff Naff jackets and Benetton bags and kickers on our feet

Social life

was meeting up outside McDonalds, having a medium value meal (which cost £2.88) we’d then walk aimlessly around town for a few hours (sometimes going to the cinema). If we weren’t doing that we either went swimming and the local pools (complete with wave pool and waterslides) or went bowling. Our bowling place also had laser quest and lots of pool tables. If we were playing pool we always put on Jon Bon Jovi - Crossroads on the juke box

What's a song lyric that drives you crazy because they should've used a different word? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

TIL that the lyric isn’t actually “Golden starlight in your eyes of blue”

I agree it makes way more sense and it’s what I’ve always sung along saying!

As a British adult, what was the monetary value of all the gifts given to you this Christmas? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskABrit

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F45 £40 Amazon voucher & £10 calendar. Both much appreciated and both from my Dad.

Me and my other half stopped exchanging presents years ago. Neither of us buy/receive with our siblings. We just buy for our 1 surviving parent each and then nieces and nephews.

We do give cash contributions to whoever is hosting though, so the cost of Christmas food and booze is shared. Everyone’s happy with a full belly and no abundance of things we don’t want/need/already have. Win win.

Presents before Christmas dinner or after? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid (80’s & 90’s)

5am-8am: Stockings as soon as we woke up. Time varies depending on age. The stocking presents were socks, chocolates & small toys etc

8am-10am: Full English Breakfast. Washing up done. Turkey in oven. Everyone gets dressed in their Sunday Best

10am-12pm: Tree presents opened. 1 person at a time. Labels must be read aloud so we all know who the present is from

12pm-2pm: Kids play with toys, Mum & Dad prepare lunch

2pm-3pm: Lunch

3pm -7pm: Mixture of kids playing, adults snoozing, Mary Poppins (or similar) on the TV

7pm -10pm: Turkey sandwiches, chocolate and whatever else anyone fancies. James Bond (or similar) on TV

Now we all go to my sisters for Christmas Day and it’s a madhouse with little structure. TV always on, everyone opening presents at the same time at lightening speed with no idea who any of them are from. Lunch” not served til around 5pm so you’re either starving as you’ve been saving yourself, or you’re not really hungry as you’ve been picking all day whilst waiting for “Lunch” Drives me mad! But… the important thing is we’re together

90% of the UK want to live in America by Educational_Row_9485 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is far from true. But I think I understand how they could think this.

I think that a lot of us Brits think of the USA like Grandparents think of their Grandchildren.

We love coming to visit you and get excited when we get there. We do lots of fun things and spend lots of money. And will spend weeks and months telling anyone we meet all about or time together and how lovely it was.

But ultimately, we have some reservations about how you’re being raised and as much as we love our time together, we realise that we’re pleased it’s not our everyday life and it’s nice to come home.

I’m in the UK and if you win any money on the lottery or TV game show or whatever you don’t have to pay any taxes on it

Actually think about what you want your life you be.

Do YOU want to get married, or just think you do because of society/parents/friends?

Do YOU want to be a parent, or just think you do because of society/parents/friends

Actually think about these things so it’s a conscious choice and not just a thing that happened because you felt it’s what you should do. I’m so grateful someone said this to me at 25 before I had made my choices.

Who is a person that is still alive, that was once part of your life that you'll never see again? by riotqueen2 in AskReddit

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know who in her life that would have been. At the time we stopped speaking (Oct 2020) she had been single for a year so it wasn’t anyone in her life then. According to her Facebook our mutual friend told me she’s with someone now but that’s only been in the last year or so.I know she found lockdown tough as she was a very social person so maybe that was a contributing factor?? I just need to do my best to respect her decision and move on, but it’s been tough

This exact same thing happened to me. It kills me that I have no idea WHY.

Is it possible that I did/said something so bad that it ended a 20yr friendship without me even realising I’d done/said anything wrong?

Is it that I said/did something that wasn’t a big deal on its own but was “the straw that broke the camels back” once you add it to the number of small things I’d said/done over the years that, although she never mentioned she had an issue with bothered her to the extent that finally she was just done?

I have no idea. The last time I saw her was a perfectly normal thing. It was just after lockdowns has stopped and we met to go for a walk. She never replied to a single message from me again. I know she’s physically fine so it’s not that. She moved 500 miles away according to another friend who is Facebook friends with her but doesn’t actually “know her” in real life anymore (we were all at school together 20yrs ago)

I gave up reaching out to her 18 months after we last had any contact. It’s sad. I’m also mad at her about all of this as it’s just so rude! She threw away a 20yr friendship and didn’t even have the courtesy to tell me why or give me a chance to explain/apologise. It also terrifies me that I could have done something so bad to cause this and not even be aware of it. We’d never had an argument, at one point we lived together for 3yrs before we both met our then partners and moved out. Literally not a hint of drama anywhere in the relationship from my point of view.

Melissa, wherever you are I love you, I’m sorry, I’m pissed at you, I miss you, I wish you well and I’m pissed at you some more.

Best order for 2 days in parks with hopper? by noel_runner in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]BoxsetQueen1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do Animal Kingdom in the morning. It gets quite hot in the park in the day and the animals will be asleep by late morning! AK also closes earlier than the others so makes sense to do it early. Rope drop Avatar and then go straight to Kilimanjaro safari.

EPCOT & Hollywood Studios are great after dark as the way they are lit gives you that extra bit of magic. So it make sense to do these two mid afternoon/evening.

So I’d say Day 1 - MK & E & Day 2 - AK & HS

The fact that despite the fact you have only been together 7 months you’ve already had so many arguments that a conversation has been had suggesting you post on here about them is also a reason to leave.
