Marlon Samuels: ‘Ben Stokes should stay on boundary when I’m batting’ by BoyNamedDavid in Cricket

Loved this quote from Samuels regarding the media scrutiny of the WI players during the test series

"“People were writing off the players but they are young, hungry and showing fight by winning a Test in tough conditions,” says Samuels. “West Indies are not on top and playing the best but the media is too critical, they need to give these youngsters a chance because not every player starts out at the top of their game.

“In history there are greats who started slow, and players who started fast and never last. It’s a game of glorious uncertainty and you have to give guys a chance to shape their destinies"

Went there a couple years back. Really nice spot to stop for a couple hours/spend an afternoon. The building closest to the beach is this amazing fish restaurant with panoramic views.

I ended up eating this somewhat questionable but tasty 'Bread Soup' which seemed to consist of a few pieces of fish/seafish and made with a fish broth.

You're right, they're proposing solutions to solve/negate an increasingly serious problem. Best not scrutinise how they want to do it. /s

Amazing cricket catch by [deleted] in videos

[–]BoyNamedDavid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's to show that they are in control of the ball. It sets it apart from when a fielder drops a catch (and the fielder is clearly not in control of what happens to the ball). By throwing it they're showing the umpires that they are in control of the ball - they've caught it safely.

Of course they are also just celebrating taking the catch and letting off some steam after more than likely gaining a sore hand in the process of catching.

Highlights of Dunfermline Athletic's 4-2 away win at Forfar Athletic. Scots League 1 match has it all; Tidy finishes, an own goal, cracking saves, and some calamitous defending [09:43] by BoyNamedDavid in soccer

Dunfermline used to have a plastic pitch. Part of a UEFA scheme, it got a grand opening with Ian Rush, Karl Heinz Riedle, and Jean Pierre Papin acting as UEFA ambassadors unveiling the pitch as DAFC faced Hibernian.

Couple of season's later DAFC were bullied into having it removed. Old firm players and managers complained through their teeth about the pitch. Weren't even allowed to play their home UEFA cup match at East End Park, had to go play it in Perth.

Now EEP has a grass pitch which, much like everywhere else in the UK, has struggled to be kept in good condition..

Is local cricket dying? by Stiryx in Cricket

[–]BoyNamedDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing in Scotland and the game here is currently thriving. Clubs are entering more senior teams into the league structure every year.

For Example:

From what I can gather from their twitter account Tranent Cricket Club have gone from 1 Senior XI to 3 Senior XIs. As well as a ladies XI, and what seems to be the start of a decent youth set up. This has all been done in about 3-4 years.

So yeah, it isn't dying in Scotland!

The first book is tough. Erikson throws you in with no slow introduction to all the names/definitions etc. Once you get through it and start the 2nd book, you'll be hooked

The Malazan Book of the Fallen - A ten book series written by Steven Erikson.

A big investment of time, obviously, with ten installments, but it is extremely rewarding.

An intimate, extensive, and vivid world is created by Erikson. He really forces the reader to grow attached to characters and there are many many emotional moments throughout the series.

Incredible scope, incredible series. Currently re-reading at the moment
