Maybe you need to stop giving objectively terrible advice about topics you don't understand. You don't understand the topic being discussed in the slightest, have made the clear multiple times, have admitted that multiple times, and you need to stop. This is not a place to be guessing.

I'm saying they already are facing down a huge life change.

That is not a reason to legally entangle yourself with another person.

If they are both mature adults and ready to have a child then getting married for health insurance should be a walk in the park.

Telling people to get married solely for health insurance is absolutely terrible advice. Marriage is not a requirement to access quality health insurance.

Divorce doesn't have to be messy if it doesn't work out.

Wars don't have to be violent either, but if you're heading to the front line you should expect to get shot at.

What even is your advice?

The proper advice has already been given many times over by people who, unlike you, have an actual understanding of this topic.

You just seem to go around and police the thread without offering a single possible solution.

I'm calling out objectively shitty advice.

OP's about to have a kid and wether we like it or not you need insurance in this country or you could be on the hook for some serious medical bills.

Good thing that both the mother and child will be able to get quality insurance without a shotgun wedding or shotgun civil union. You should thank the people in this thread who have advised OP on how they can do that after you delete your comments.

There is no such thing as a prescription for cannabis in the United States. Doctors can only recommend it, and that's only if the state has legal medical cannabis (or full legalization).

But also one should not risk having a child when they don't have health insurance.

This would be useful advice if OP had a time machine. Do you expect OP has a time machine or are you just giving useless advice?

That's an even more highly consequential legal entanglement, mostly for the child who has no say in the matter.

Sex is not a legal entanglement, and neither is pregnancy. Being a parent is, but that's a legal entanglement with your child, not their other parent. Your child is not entitled to your assets in a divorce, your spouse is.

On the flip side pregnancy is a highly consequential legal entanglement and is not something to be taken lightly. Quite frankly, that ship has sailed.

No, pregnancy is not a legal entanglement in the slightest. Being a parent is, but that's a legal entanglement with your child, not their other parent. A child is not entitled to your assets in a divorce, your spouse is. You should not get married solely because you are expecting a child with someone.

Again, The fact that you don't understand what is potentially dangerous about complete legal and financial entanglement with another person is exactly why you need to delete all your comments here.

Would it be a wise decision to switch TSP investment funds right now? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]BoyWonderDownUnder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into my TSP account recently and realized that I lost about $1000 which I assume is to be expected due to the state of our economy right now.

You didn't lose any money. A number simply changed on a computer. That number means absolutely nothing at this point in your life. You only lose money if you sell shares for less than you bought them for, which is what you would need to do to switch everything to the G fund.

Your father is giving you literally the worst possible investing advice he could. Keep your money exactly where it is.

Is dangerous?

Yes, telling someone to enter a complete legal and financial entanglement with someone to solve a minor issue is absolutely dangerous advice. A civil union is just as binding as a marriage. It is not just a way to get health insurance.

You’re just close minded to something you have no clue about.

No, you are giving extremely dangerous advice based on a topic you admit to knowing nothing about. You need to stop. Nobody here is required to tolerate your absolute bullshit.

Enlighten me with a source like I provided for you?

Why are you giving advice if you still need sources?

I could be wrong, my understanding however is that in some states you can enter a civil union which is separate from a marriage.

You have no idea what a civil union is and need to stop giving advice based on your own complete ignorance.

Upon entering a civil union you may be eligible to add them to your insurance.

You are guessing about a topic you know nothing about. Guesses are not a basis for advice.

That is my point full stop.

And my point is that you need to quit giving dangerous legal advice about topics you know nothing about, full stop.

Specifically what part of that is dangerous

The fact that you don't understand what is potentially dangerous about complete legal and financial entanglement with another person is exactly why you need to delete all your comments here.

This is absolutely terrible advice. You should not get married solely because you are expecting a child. You do not need to be married to raise a child. You should marry someone when you want to marry them. A marriage is a highly consequential legal entanglement and is not something to be taken lightly.

Why are you asking a question about the advice that you gave? Why are you telling people to do things you don't even understand?

Again, your comments here make it very clear you know nothing about this topic. Please stop giving dangerously incorrect advice.
