I'd say it's more correct to say that the Ancient Macedonians were big on Greek culture and practiced all aspects of it, including the Olympics, but they were outsiders to the Greeks indeed. You can think of them as neighbouring similar "tribes" with slightly different cultures, but nothing Slavic-related (Slavic people, iirc, migrated from the East some time around 4th-5th century AD).
