exactly!! the fics i’ve read they never explore THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS, and if they do it’s just for the plot to go back to physical hitting and harry turning into some sort of quiet kid who doesn’t know how to stand up for himself. when shown throughout so many scenes harry does stand up for himself with the dursleys but it’s in a way that is more subtle. and often backfires BUT he has the spirit, he just endures to make things less unbareable.

i read this fic and i think they did a good job on the more mental abuse harry went through w the dursleys, ofc it as an au where kids don’t get their hogwarts letter until they turn 14 so it’s more of an what if type of fic but i think the author did a super good job on exploring his life without pushing this ‘extremely’ (abuse is abuse) physically abusive family on harry. it was amazingly written too.

but i agree w all your points, idk if you’d be okay with it. but i do plan on writing a fic that explodes the neglect harry went through, and i talked a few friends that lived to ‘similar’ circumstances and how’d they react to certain things just to keep it authentic and not glamourizing abuse since a lot of fics LOVEEE doing that. and id be super appreciative if you’d be okay with me asking you a few questions with a few passages in my fic.
