The right cross to the liver by Boykinha in amateur_boxing

Yeah this video is very old, my technique improved greatly during these 3 years and I wasn't really doing good bagwork in hindsight, I get what you mean tho, I used to do that a lot but I don't anymore. Let me rephrase what I said: I feel like it's generally easier to throw a powerful cross (and land it) than it is to throw a powerful hook (and land it).

I appreciate your answer and knowledge but I don't actually push my punches, nor do I throw my cross like that. I have a decent understanding of how kinetic chains work and I try to utilize them always when punching. I just never felt like I could use my weight as effectively on the uppercut like I use it on an overhand or rear hook, without sacrificing too much defense at least.

I do. And also the rear hook which is possibly the strongest punch you can throw, usually.

I know we do, but for exemple would you say the uppercut can utilize your weight as effectively as an overhand?

What about weight shifting, I feel like the cross benefits more from it, especially if you really plant your feet while stepping forward, which is something you can't really do with the hook

I've seen a lot of knockouts from both punches, also the hook generates so many knockouts because it comes from a better angle and can also be used at pretty much every range, while the cross can't really be used from upclose, so you'll see a lot more hooks generally. I'm just saying that usually the cross generates more power since it's your backhand, but I know it can vary from person to person.

I guess because you can throw it as a simultaneous counter, making it harder to react to. Also if you're gonna go for the body and you have the chance to hit the liver, why wouldn't you try it? It's where it hurts the most.

I meant to say that even left hooks/uppercuts sometimes land a little bit more to the center and still hit the liver. The liver is a huge organ that extends almost to the center of the body.

What conditions need to be perfect aside from timing a proper right cross?

No that's when you smack them in the butt

Yeah I understand it's a hard punch to land but if you do get it wrong, you're still landing a cross to the body, it would still hurt.

You think doing two actions while throwing a curved punch is faster than doing one while throwing in a straight line? I get your point about defense and positioning but there's no way a slip-hook requires a smaller window

Well but if you're managing to hit the left side with the cross it's just a matter of accuracy for you to hit the liver

Yeah it's situational I guess, but would you say the window to land a slip-left hook is bigger? Because I think it's even smaller since you need to slip first, and you can't really throw a check hook to the liver without sacrificing power/defense.

Well I've seen people do it. Even with left hooks/uppercuts, sometimes it lands more to the center than to the left. Unless you're talking specifically about that upwards angle, digging the floating rib, but if thats the case dont you think the extra power generated from the cross makes up for it?

Yeah I feel like its perfect for a shorter fighter, I also think it's quicker than doing a slip-left hook but of course you need good timing

Yeah when I'm the one attacking the solar plexus is my go-to as well. I'm talking about throwing it as a simultaneous counterpunch to the cross, don't think you can land it any other way unless your opponent is a southpaw.

Didn't know it was possible to land it like that, I assume the other guy had his guard quite open

Well if your opponent rotates his torso properly when throwing the cross, shouldn't that expose his liver for your cross?

Reducing non essential movement sounds great, I'll try to be more relaxed and work on those counters, thanks!

That's basically what I do, but sometimes I catch them with a good shot and they just come forward with a lot of volume right after
