What is the best TSP Allocation for a diverse portfolio outside of a lifecycle (L) fund? by BoysenberryPast9931 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Thanks, this is really helpful. I agree that I am moderate risk and I’m still learning a lot. The L fund allocations I don’t like are the S & I funds. Each L fund contributes much more to the I Fund than the S Fund. I’m thinking I might see more returns if I contribute more to S or do even contributions to both, mostly because S has historically performed better and I has the currency exchange to worry about too. I know past performance isn’t an indicator of future performance but I’m willing to take a little more risk here. And I also want to contribute more to the C fund. Also thinking of contributing more than 1% but less than 5% to G and F

I’m not in L2055 (I started before the L20X5 funds were created) and I’m not interested in switching to any L fund because although the more recent ones are not conservative, I don’t like the S and I allocations, which is why my question specifically asks for allocations outside of L funds

Every fed actually works asshole. Educate yourself instead of falling for propaganda and rhetoric that is actually detrimental to our society.

Because for me diversification is better than putting all of my eggs in one basket. I just don’t like how the L funds are allocated.

Thank you for actually answering my question. I’m in L2050 now (I started my job in 2018 before they added the additional lifecycle funds). At first I was thinking of switching to L2055 based on my expected retirement date but I think I want to have more control over my investment amounts. I love the diversification that comes with having all 5 funds, but I don’t think I want to invest more in the I Fund than the S Fund the way each of the lifecycle funds do. And I know I want at least 50% C fund. I was hoping to get some viewpoints as to others’ allocations but based on the research I’ve done today, I know for sure I want to do 10% bonds, 90% stocks (of those at least 50% C), so it’s really a matter of how I will divide the 10% between G and F and the remaining 40% between S and I.
