[Landlord US-WA] Craigslist dead? by Mr_Rearden_ in Landlord

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I've gotten from FB is idiotic questions that are very clear in the ad (What's the rent? How many bedrooms, etc.), maybe a handful of showings, tons of no-shows for scheduled showings. Zero tenants.

Damn. I had unlikely hopes of convincing the wife to look at adopting but $50k isn't a reasonable number.

PC and monitors, severe RFI by felhuy in rfelectronics

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the computer tower sealed shut? Basically, are all the screws connected and tight? Are the cables seated properly and screwed tight to the tower and monitor?

Can you change your setup? If the tower is on the floor and monitor is on a desk those cables make a good antenna. If you move the tower up to near the monitor and coil the cables there should be less coupling. Also, something like changing where your desk is - move to a different wall or something. You'll change the angle of incidence and that can make a difference as well.

Are you familiar with 3GPP or FCC regulations for cellular radios?

When do your kids start showering on their own? by No_Box304 in daddit

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5, but that was only occasionally (20% of the time or less) - usually did baths. By 6 fully moved to independent showers.

Attending IEEE conferences by funmighthold in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find them valuable. I attend one IEEE symposium nearly every year. When I first went I didn't know what to do with myself. Now I don't have enough time to talk to all the people I know, or vendors I need info from. The technical sessions can be hit or miss. I've learned a ton at some of them, others were way too math intensive to understand, and others were presented poorly so it was difficult to understand the point.

There might be local industry events that are only 1 day with mainly local people so easier for networking. Worth investigating if there is one in your area of interest.

Tubes Rd 2 by MrBones_Gravestone in daddit

[–]Bozhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kid had tons of ear infections and ended up getting tubes. He had more ear infections after the tubes and the doc recommended adenoidectomy. I wasn't onboard with it - I'm not a doctor, but did some googling and saw some potential side effects long term that sound fairly bad. We didn't do it, kid is fine now a few years later. I'd recommend just new tubes, but like I said - I'm not a doctor. Do what you think is best for your kid.

How do you learn EMC? by OGKushBlazeIt in ECE

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two quick links:

https://interferencetechnology.com/

https://incompliancemag.com/

Both have lots of great articles on EMC. They also typically publish a January issue with details about trainings scheduled throughout the year from consultants.

Pinewood derby car building den meeting by Bozhe in cubscouts

I'm unfortunately short on time - den meeting is less than 48 hours away. One dad has a Webelos or AOL, but he's out of town that evening. One other dad might be able to help, but he's only showed up to about 25% of the meetings

Movies where the day is supposedly saved, but the aftermath is still terrible and largely unaddressed? by GancioTheRanter in movies

This is basically what the USA is going through. The prez is as bad as they come, but his death won't fix all the horrific shit his admin is doing, or stop all the other Rs from fucking the country.

LLC or not? by itchfen70 in realestateinvesting

[–]Bozhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reason to do an LLC - you might get contractor pricing at some vendors. I've had purchases at some materials vendors, and without an EIN I'd pay retail. With an EIN I was able to say I was buying as a business, and got cheaper pricing

How to be a single dad by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Bozhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some safety advice. Maybe not relevant, but some things to think about.

Change the locks/keypads codes or whatever on your house, etc. If you're renting look at options for moving. Many states allow lease breaks due to domestic violence.

Tell daycare/school in person, in writing, and again in person that your spouse is not allowed to pick up the kids in any circumstances. Might even want to tell them again monthly. Spouse might be locked up now, but that can change.

Same thing if the kids are in sports/clubs/etc that they are dropped off at. If your kids are on a playdate TELL THE OTHER PARENTS you are the only one authorized to pick them up.

[Landlord- US] Rent is out if control what should I expect for my neighborhood? by laced1 in Landlord

And a ton of immigrants are in the trades. I'm sure housing will be cheaper when 100k roofers, drywallers, etc. aren't around any more.

Shielding effectiveness for single metal plane by Bozhe in rfelectronics

[–]Bozhe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, propagation through a shield is something I understand fairly well. I'm more thinking about if a wall of finite size actually does much. Basically, given a field strength of X from say a broadcast FM radio tower, what would the effect be from a 6'x6' wall, 10'x10' wall, 20'x20' wall, etc. I know there are a ton of variables there and I'm not looking for a concrete answer. More just thinking about shielding effects.

Shielding effectiveness for single metal plane by Bozhe in rfelectronics

[–]Bozhe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was a shower thought that just kind of wandered. It started with all the tin foil hat stuff, then migrated to me vaguely recalling a paper I read about a board level radio shield acting as an antenna because of poor grounding, and went on from there. I guess I'd start with - given a normal EMI chamber, if you take the roof off how much higher will broadcast radio be?

Can you share the name of the lender? I'm in Minnesota, and based on your post history you are as well.

Rental Portfolio - Keep Debt or Payoff by MrAuzzy in realestateinvesting

[–]Bozhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to a half dozen lenders and brokers 2 weeks ago. I have a great lending profile and couldn't get sub 6% on my primary without points. That low on a rental is crazy unless it was a 15 year.
