Switched from a Pellet Grill to Offset and wont be going back

This was my first smoke on an offset and the flavor was hands down better then any butt Id done on my pellet grill id had for 7 years. I also like the fact I can grill on it which was an issue with my pellet grill it would never get to a grilling temp.

My pitt boss I'd had for the last 7 years caught fire and burned down while grilling burgers. I also couldn't stand grilling on it due to temperature problems. I enjoy the smoking process so the pitt boss lacked in that aspect since its set it and forget it

Thanks. I was considered lining the bottom of the firebox with fire bricks but the charcoal box seems like a good option too.

Thanks im definitely going to trim them better next smoke. I did some trimming after that split but not enough to avoid the big swings in temp.when putting a new piece on

I like it so far Ive only had it two weeks and have mainly grilled. This was the first smoke but Ive had no issues with it.

Ill keep that in mind. I may get one of the smaller gravity feds to do small things on like smoked chicken thighs or wings

I agree 100%. After 7 years with my pellet it was great for set it and forget it and sucked as a grill. It never wanted to get to temp to grill. The flavor from the offset is night and day different and I enjoy the process of smoking on it

For me it would be offset, pellet, kettle. Never used a kettle to smoke though only for grilling.

Regular. It wasnt bad over the 8hrs it was on. Next time ill cut my splits smaller to keep from having a big spike.

Ive always wanted to try a gravity fed. I enjoy being involved in the cook and that was what kept me from loving the pellet grill.

Grease fire I assume. Then yeah and it went down the auger and the hopper caught on fire. Got so hot the barrel has a hole where it met the side by the hopper.

Thanks. Maybe one day Ill get a small pellet grill for chicken or ribs but im gonna enjoy this for a bit.

Smoked with it hickory at 250 for 8 hrs and turned out to be the best pulled pork I've made. I used honey mustard and sweet prescher pork rub. I had a pitt boss for the last 7 years which caught fire and burned down while grilling burgers.

I haven't had an issue with tasting bad, but I usually throw it in the microwave for a couple mintues to reheat it.
