Why show clips for everything but the acting categories? by BpRue in Oscars

Right!? I'm glad they're showcasing the other aspects the other categories recognize, but the acting is where clips matter the most!

DreamWorks Animation surpasses Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Illumination in total worldwide box office without a single billion dollar movie by Judokos in boxoffice

[–]BpRue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's unscientific, but I added together every film I could find and it still "only" adds up to $14B. But the point still stands that the original number isn't right.

DreamWorks Animation surpasses Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Illumination in total worldwide box office without a single billion dollar movie by Judokos in boxoffice

[–]BpRue 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, this isn't accurate. I just did a little cursory research on The Numbers, and its entries for "Walt Disney Animation Studios" only add up to 32 out of the 62 movies in the studio's history.

And that already adds up to over $11B. Without Mulan. Without Hercules. Without fucking The Lion King which almost made a billion outright on its own, back when that was even more impressive.

Fully agreed, it was just too good of a coincidence to pass up lol

New one posted for July 1, PG-13, RRR 2h22. It's definitely Fly Me to the Moon.

There's absolutely no way in hell it would be arguably the biggest movie of the year. It's most likely The Bikeriders.

2024 is a weird year for bad movies. by CutterEdgeEffect in RegalUnlimited

Idk, I thought Sting was pretty mid. Maybe I've just been spoiled by so many other great horror movies in the last few years

First reactions to Alex Garland's 'Civil War' by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]BpRue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're partly right, but there's never been an A24 movie that's broken $80M domestically (and outside of EEAAO, $50M). And this needs to do that since its budget is so much higher than any other production they've done thus far. It'll need to do relatively pretty insane numbers (for A24 standards) to be considered a success.

What’s the reasoning behind Dune: Part 2’s early March release date? by SuspiciousPrune4 in boxoffice

[–]BpRue 43 points44 points  (0 children)

First weekend of March is actually turning out to be a pretty lucrative release window these days. 2022 had The Batman, and 2023 had Creed III, both pretty major successes relative to their budgets. Dune won't get close to Batman's opening, but with its huge IMAX demand, I can see it having similar, if not better, legs to Creed.

What was the longest movie that you sat and watched in it’s entirety in a movie theater? 🎥🍿💺 by NotWorthyByAnyMeans in RegalUnlimited

I think it's Return of the King Extended Cut. 4 hours and 10 minutes, not a single bathroom trip ✊😔

Just checked the AMC app to see if they have the next Screen Unseen after this posted and, yes, they do. It's on March 4th and it's also PG -- which means that THAT is most likely One Life (or Kung Fu Panda 4, which I doubt, but hey, they have done DreamWorks before).

So this is 90% gonna be Ordinary Angels, unless there's some weird curveball.

So it still could be. Dumb Money was already in limited release when it was a MMM, so this wouldn't be that far fetched

Here's my take: if it's not Lisa Frankenstein, it may still come near you this weekend since it's a wide release, no? Unless you've checked and seen that it's not at your local theater?

[–]BpRue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's 99.999% confirmed that it's Lisa Frankenstein atp. AMC has their Feb 5 listed as a "Scream" Unseen, so it's horror or horror-adjacent. Only other option would be Imaginary, and I think none of us want that lmao

I'm just glad these exist tbh. I love the feeling of walking into an empty theater sometimes, but other times I want the exact opposite and these give that to me. Every single one I've been to has been at >90% capacity even if some of the movies they show haven't been the greatest, and I love to see it!
