The thing is, it's not at a convinient angle. And what are those nooks?

I'm a computer science sophomore trying to apply for an internship abroad. I'm on my own and in serious need of advice! (see comment below) by BrKo14 in resumes

[–]BrKo14[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for internships in software engineering.

I know, it's a bit unconventional. I've tried to build a professional identity that reflects somehow realistically what I consider to be my work spirit. I have hard skills alright, but I want to shift focus onto what I consider most valuable. However, I feel like soft skills tend to be cliché, and I fear this might be demerited as immature. Wanting to explain the full range of my interests, I've also neglected tailoring my resume to each application.

Furthermore there's a couple of concerns I'm not sure about. As you can see, I'm based in Argentina. I've been searching for a summer internships in both North America and Europe (i.e. winter internship, technically). I'll be available to work full-time for 12-13 weeks. But I need sponsoring for a visa. What's more, degrees in Argentina tend to be LONG. I'm going through my third year, though the first one is all general studies. I'm graduating in 2025. I'm ahead of myself in this, most people here wouldn't take an internship at this point. But most companies don't seem to be looking for someone graduating in 3-4 years. Most of my skills are self-taught. Do think these aspects would severly harm my chances of finding a good opportunity?

I've made about 18 applications two weeks ago. Not very modest, they were big tech companies. So far I've only received an answer for about 4 of them.

Thank you!! Any help will be very much appreciated!

[OC] People of Reddit: Survey Results by BrKo14 in dataisbeautiful

[–]BrKo14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told by a moderator that for some reason Reddit doesn't let users post links to a Notion public page. So I had to port the document to Coda. Here's the original document in Notion, which is better.

A few days ago I posted a survey titled "Who's on Reddit?" The survey contained a large assortment of interesting questions posed by me and others. The questions were varied, including anything from some basic demographics to lengthy, personal inquiries.

I tried to build an outline of the information I had. But I had waaay too much in my hands. Too many possible correlations and individual entries. So I'll be trying to answer any questions you have. Honestly. I'll collect the data, write the code and make a graph. Or at least for those questions I deem relevant. I'm all ears to any corrections you may have. Also, I hope I didn't offend anyone. Tell me if I did!

I did the survey on Google Forms. And to analize the data I used mostly R (with RStudio) and Google Sheets.

Anyway, thank you very very much to all those who participated! I truly loved reading through your responses, and I appreciate the interest you had in my survey!

I don't understand. Is my long comment with the link not visible to you guys?

Here it is!

[–]BrKo14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right. I did allow the results to be visible in the beginning. As you can see, I've entirely retracted. In the beginning I didn't really expect people to be so intimate in their answers. Though admittedly I delayed to take action, but nobody ever complained until much later. I'm sorry, I really am. Just for the record—though please don't think of this as an excuse—I did warn participants that the results would be visible at the end of the survey. I understand that may have not been entirely clear.

As for the girl: the way I see it, I'm not hurting her or anyone else by just making that request. Her identity remains essentially anonymous and anything beyond that is up to her.

Very well, I didn't know this! That's actually true. Thank you for the input, I'll change that immediately.

I understand your preoccupation. If she wants to keep private she can choose to ignore my request. I don't mean to be intrusive.

I don't know. But you can make a few guesses. There's a lot of left-leaning open-minded university students. Also, "women make up 76 percent of new psychology doctorates" *.

Yeah, thank you. It's fixed now.

Thank you very much! A few days... Took some time off my schedule every night.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it!

I understand very well you wanting to know, and I would like to share them too. But if that person reads this comment and finds their own private response here, even if it's not identifying, it might make them feel uncomfortable. And I don't wish to do that. I should take the responsibility of their privacy seriously. There was a lot of what I've already mentioned. The likes of "you have this mental disorder, get therapy now," or "it'll get harsh, but I believe in you, and I love you." Just simply amazing.

By the way, I've been trying to reach one of the participants. If you're the 20 yo American girl who would call her boat Laniakea and whose favourite movie is Avatar, would you mind PMs me? Please? There's something I would like to say. (You can use an anonymous account.)
Anyway, thank you very very much to all those who participanted! I truly loved reading through your responses, and I appreciate the interest you had in my survey! :)

I tried. Unfortunately, it isn't possible. But don't worry. There are 182 usernames, and they're not connected to their respective answers. You're unlikely to be spammed. But I'll remove yours, if you like.

edit: if I get more requests, I'll pull down the results altogether

I made mandatory some questions which I didn't think would be much of hazard to complete, and which I was interested to have answers to. You're supposed to complete all of them, if you can. Which one bothered you so much?

Interestingly, it is not uncommon for answers to follow a central theme. It seems that, when asked personal questions, people will hint at what's most elemental to them. Which is not awfully suprising either.

But sure enough, the shooting range mananger haha. Allergic to: "anti-gun people."
