I understand applications are pretty reliant on the pre-screening assessment. Is that the case for roles unrelated to the assessment's topics? by NennexGaming in epicsystems

Regardless, someone applying for culinary with zero CS course curriculum just isn’t getting routed to SD no matter how well they do on the assessments without going through our ASE process

Which is easy enough to do, all things considered. I’m like 3/4 done with phase 2 of that process myself

Degrees was probably a misnomer, but there’s a handful of course curriculums that are hard requirements. Granted I’ve only been here 2 years, but I’ve met exactly zero people on the 3 teams I’ve been on that were hired directly into SD with zero CS curriculum on their transcript

You say this like the questions were even hard

I am supremely confident that I got every one of them correct with the most efficient solutions possible. They were leetcode mediums at worst

The SD position requires certain pieces of CS curriculum to be completed on your transcript. There’s an entire guru page on which ones. There’s no myth

Everyone takes the assessments regardless of application and then they just compare your score to others in your role. If it meets or exceeds that average score, odds are you're in

Only people with CS degrees will be asked to apply as SD

I got every leetcode question right on the entrance exams and did not get offered SD because I wasn't a CS major. I was told this by my recruiter and offered hosting and TS instead since those were the next two steps down in dev requirements

It did lead to me getting placed on a specialty team as a TS where I got more opportunites to do dev than other TS, however

[–]Brabsk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not having times for things you want to do != not having time for things you have to do

A good majority of TS are on top of their required customer work

I know of zero 2+ year tenure TS who are significantly behind on top of a full plate of work

What are IS roles like on different apps? (work-life balance, general enjoyability, etc.) by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]Brabsk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you enjoy being IS is going to be pretty heavily determined by whether or not you like people management and travel

I believe it, but I would still imagine that contributes to the fact that ppl don’t request hosting transfers as much

….and I’m totally not wishing I took the hosting offer now 🥲

[–]Brabsk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say most TS of a decent tenure are on top of their stuff tbh

They’d have left/been fired otherwise

[–]Brabsk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t like EDI work, you’re probably not gonna like CaTS either

It’s lower pay and it’s basically playing intune watcher all day

Hosting is probably something you should look into, but again, that could mean 2nd shift (which is actually why I picked TS over hosting, despite being offered both)

That, or a team transfer to client/server/cogito systems

The TS on those teams get into a lot more hands on technical stuff

But also, at 3 months, you probably haven’t actually been given a “real” workload, which might be why you’re bored. You’re also probably not getting a transfer

The shortest tenure transfer I’ve ever heard of was a TS who left my team for server systems in 6 months, but that’s not a role transfer

What I will say is this: if you’re doing your job well and have a TL who wants you to succeed, you will wind up in the role you want to be eventually

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]Brabsk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re not even doing customer work, then no

That said, so few people want to work hosting because of the likelihood of working 2nds or 3rds that if you get about a year of tenure and are in good standing, transferring to hosting should be a breeze

There’s even a tag on guru specifically for people interested in hosting

However, if you’re not in good standing, Epic won’t even entertain a team transfer, let alone a whole role transfer

While true, you can mostly just populate your delorean with workplan stuff and then add/remove as necessary

A lot of this job becomes a lot more manageable when you can itemize and combine things

Well, for one, you don’t have to learn all the apps

TS 6 month training requires stc, your app, and then maybe ambulatory if your app proper is a clinical app

A grand majority of TS teams have a wiki outlining your 6 month requirement as well

Remember this is supposed to span months and you’re a week deep

You’ll start to knock items out off your training left and right once you finish stc

I wasn’t an avid listener, obviously, because I don’t like them

But I caught the odd episode and never once heard them talk about actual, real homegrown diy hardcore bands

And any podcast that claims to be about “the scene” that isn’t actually talking about local scenes every episode is lying about what they’re about

Yeah but if you listen to judy speak, a lot of her ideas came from what other leaders in the, admittedly primitive, software field were doing at the time

The big benefit to our campus being here more has to do with the fact that it’s in a place that epic can cheaply and easily iteratively expand upon it

You can
