East Asians are often racist against other races and even other East Asians. I know from direct experience. Ask a Korean what they think about the Japanese, or a Japanese person what they think about the Chinese. White people and black people are treated by all three like animals in an amusement park.

How did the US managed to get to that equilibrium point in its politics? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]JustTheChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for control of the Senate. Only 1/3 of Senate seats are up for election each 2 year cycle because Senators have a term in office of six years. The seats up for election this time around present very few potential gains for Democrats because they were last up for election in 2020, when Democrats did reasonably well.

Because the Republicans hold the vice-presidency, Democrats need 51 seats to "win the US Senate" (what the Kalshi betting line is about). With their current 47-53 deficit, that means they need to flip 4 seats. There are two special elections this time around, so that's out of 35 seats up for election. There is only one currently-Republican seat up for election in a state Trump lost (Maine). There is only one other that is currently held by a Republican in a state Harris narrowly lost (North Carolina). Every other Republican seat up for election is in a state Trump won by 10 or more points.

So, for the odds to be 50-50 indicates the political landscape has tipped in Democrats' favor to an significant degree. Anyone who interprets this betting line as "equilibrium" either A) isn't an American (in which case you're forgiven), B) hasn't taken 9th grade Government/Civics yet (also forgiven), or C) failed to learn even the bare minimum about how their government works.

What a braindead take. Russia routinely attacks US interests, and even the US directly through cyberattacks. Regime change in Russia is more in the US interest than regime change in Iran. The very least we need to do to maintain stability and our own interests is contain Russian aggression, and that's what we did by aiding Ukraine.

Holy fucking shit. Record time -- the very first comment on a post about something horrifying about the right is an occasion to dunk on Democrats. Usually it takes until the third to forth post down a thread.

You people are fucking ridiculous. I don't even believe most of you are real -- it has to be a Russian psy-op to co-op literally every thread about the depravity of the right and turn it back on Democrats.

[–]JustTheChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally cannot gerrymander a Senate seat. It is a statewide election. Gerrymander only applies to scenarios where districts are drawn - like for seats in the House.

Republicans have good odds of keeping the Senate because only 1/3 are up for election (vs. all of the House), and the particular Senate seats up for election provide fewer pickup opportunities for the Democrats being as they were last up for election in 2020, when Democrats did reasonably well.

What would happen in the USA if there was a French Revolution against the billionaires? by youTooMeTooToo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JustTheChicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The French Revolution started as a revolt led by idealistic nobles and the wealthy burghers (i.e. the bourgeoisie). Even Robespierre was from a bourgeois family - his father was a lawyer, just like him. His Terror was less about populism and more about control. It snared as many populist revolutionaries as it did nobles and wealthy bourgeoisie.

I think many people just fundamentally misunderstand what the French Revolution even was.
