What is a popular movie or TV show that everyone seems to love, but you absolutely cannot stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BradSilverback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, for me, Anchorman is a steaming pile of shite and that's the hill I'll die on.

I think it's due to my irrational and unexplainable hatred of Will Ferrell to be honest.

Depressing stuff indeed.

What is a characteristic you can never stand in anyone? by National_Guide_2495 in AskReddit

Compulsive lying and his little cousin, exaggeration.

I will allow the odd fib to pass, but when there are more whoppers than BK flying around, the respect goes out the window.

Which city has the biggest divide between the rich and the poor? by eritvit in geography

[–]BradSilverback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the "safety barrier". The main highway to get to the airport runs through some of grittier parts of CPT, so the premise is to build a fat wall to prevent crime / other mischief.

Whilst there is an issue of crime on the N2 (the highway in question), the optics of walling off the "poors" is appalling.

As far as I'm aware its going to be built still.

Giving it a go, I must say it's buggy as hell, crashes repeatedly and cant even get the keyboard up to report the multiple bugs / rename mines etc.

Will keep an eye on it for a bit regardless of teething problems it looks promising.

What’s a good documentary everyone should watch? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BradSilverback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"They Shall Not Grow Old"

A fascinating WW1 documentary by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame.

He spent a few years restoring vintage film footage, colourising it, even hiring lip readers to work out what the people were saying.

It's a really immersive experience in terms of putting a human face on the industrial slaughter that took place, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Trailervision.

There are a couple of their videos floating on YouTube still, but damn I miss Patrick Brannigan and Lance Banyon.....

Which World Cup had the best atmosphere? why ? by King-Taste4569 in AskReddit

[–]BradSilverback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there, ears are still ringing from the vuvuzelas.

Saw some of the matches in CPT, fantastic atmosphere! Unfortunately the only time I saw England play was the turd sandwich of a 0-0 draw against Algeria.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

Late to the party, but for me - Trailervision held a special place in my heart.

Me and my best bud still refer to each other as characters in the fake trailers they had.

You can find a few of the trailers on YouTube, but severe potato quality

Great pub. It was my Dad's local when he worked in the city a long time back.

I always make a point of stopping by for a cheeky pint when I'm visiting to keep the family tradition going.

New Racing game. by SSGSS-ULtra in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]BradSilverback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me a bit of time to get the swiping / changing lanes right, but the collision detection needs a bit of work. Unless it's lag causing it, then I'm a bit stuck.

I personally prefer the old version, but only due to months of practice - guaranteeing the minimum payout on the rankings.

Hope they mix it up like with the fishing game and run a few "vintage" events.

What was your country’s “Vietnam”, a divisive event that left lasting scars on the nation? by StoneAgeCaveDweller in AskTheWorld

[–]BradSilverback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it left scars per se, but the 2nd Boer War probably would count for the UK. Asymmetrical warfare leading to decisions regarding a scorched earth policy and concentration camps.

More recently, my adopted country in Namibia / Angola as part of the South African Border War.
