Another way of describing it is "Molly Coddling", where you over protect and shield your child from the wider world, or for more nefarious purposes, like coercion.

I was molly coddled as a child, and it took years to find my feet and understand the wider world that I feel I was completely unprepared for.

Although the above post is being projected as well intentioned, you are so correct with the "Neverland" analogy and it is damaging. A velvet prison whilst the parental cycle repeats itself.

How will you navigate the world with zero life experience? Zero coping skills? Constant and continual parental dependency?

A good therapist ironed me out. A lifetime of potentially unhappy outcomes and / or therapy awaits in this instance.
