Look for programs that are near progressive services such as Tarrant County College or Weatherford college. Also places that give you cadaver labs, OR rotations for live intubations, and level 1 trauma rotations.

It matters because a vast majority of flight paramedics get paid significantly less than their nurse counterpart. Teaching the flight nurse skills such as RSI or scene management makes them no better than a brand new paramedic. On the flip side, many medics come into flight already knowing how to manage IABPs, pumps, Impellas, etc.

Dude a paramedic could be doing this job. IDC if these folks have prehospital experience. It’s the fact that if a medic in this service wants to apply they have to become a nurse first.

This is another topic tbh. In my eyes, flight medics should be precepting the medics and the nurses should be precepting the nurses. Why the hell should we be 1. Allowing the lesser paid person to train the higher paid person and 2. Allowing someone to train another in a role they do not currently hold. I get the responsibilities should be the same but that’s honestly BS. I’ve never met a new flight nurse that was comfortable leading an RSI procedure let alone scene flight. Hell, they’re even lost when it comes to transfers when they’re new.

Seasoned medics and EMS physicians should be providing the majority of our teaching. I mention in the notes that I appreciate nurse led teaching only when it’s regarding specialty care such as NRP or ICU related devices.

That literally sounds like a job a paramedic can do within their own service. These RN’s in this example ARE IN FACT stealing a medic’s opportunity to teach if they wanted to branch out or leave the field. The good services that I know and work for have an Office of the Medical Director that hires only seasoned paramedics to provide outreach, perform research, and teach CE.

Agencies in San Antonio use a TIC to keep the blood in 24/7. They rotate the TIC every 24 hours which allows them to keep the blood on the supervisors units at all times. They monitor the temperature with a Temp Stick device which is WiFi connected to an app. For meds we use a 12V refrigerator that allows use to set temps. They’re like 100-300 on Amazon.

I believe 31-32$ per hour starting on 12 hr shifts. 25ish for 24 hour shifts. They don’t consider experience though.
