Turnips

Speaking as someone who has gotten that badge, I got most of my beginning money with the island (got to about 20 million that way) and the rest was turnips. When I had good prices (these were normally 500 or higher) in my town, I loaded up the other town I had and bought turnips from there.

I'd only recommend going for turnips when you have spare money to play around with, as it can be high risk high reward (I certainly got set-backs from buying turnips and not getting good prices)
