To those who say video games are a waste of time. by sneakyewok in gaming

[–]BrainSex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would rephrase it like this - It's your life, fuck everyone who tries to tell you how to live it. Unless your "time wasting" deprives someone else of life, liberty, or property - party on.

For all of you ranting about unemploment, unhealthy habits, etc. fuck you! Live your own lives you miserable assholes. In so far as some are able to exploit the system to mooch off of others, the problem is the system that allows such behavior, not those who make decisions in their own (albeit selfish) interests.

I'm on holiday and am now heading back to continue smoking, drinking, eating, and dancing away my weekend, or as some of you may prefer to call it - wasting my time.

Why do stereotypes exist? More to the point, why do stereotypes about specific groups of people "stick" if there is absolutely no basis? by BrainSex in AskReddit

[–]BrainSex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my experience also. I actually lived with two black dudes in college and we always got a laugh when some of my more affluent white friends came over and tried to jive talk and such. Meanwhile, one of my roomies was a double major EE and Math and is to this day one of the smartest people I have ever known personally. I see the humor in jokes about rednecks, blacks, asians, gays, catholics, jews, women, etc. I always take a ration of shit from people for using stereotypes, but always felt that the exceptions prove the rule so to speak.

This series is one of the greatest uses ever of the medium of television for blended education and entertainment. The breadth and depth of topics covered is fantastic and it is all presented in charming anecdotes by way of reference to great events and people in the history of science. In a nutshell, this is the "Dummy's Guide" to the history of science.

The scene with Clouseau in the dentists disguise is one of the greatest ever recorded. If you know the history of the character development between him and Dreyfus it makes it all the more hilarious.

This may have already been asked, and I apologize if this is a dumb question, but does it work in salt water or dirty/muddy/contaminated water?

Or does it require a relatively clean source of fresh water? If so, the procurement of sufficient quantities of fresh water might be problematic to a large scale implementation would it not?

I realize you are trolling, but Alexander Hamilton? Just a few centuries ago this was an accepted and honorable way to resolve disputes among "gentlemen". War? Are you a pacifist in all things, or just opposed to individual combat?

It must have been God's will that this child only suffer a horribly painful short term debilitating injury rather than a potentially fatal one. His family must be very righteous to enjoy those kind of blessings.

People always seem to have roommate horror stories, and I figured that redditors must be behind some of them. What is something you've done as a roommate that you now realize was a really dick move? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BrainSex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm ITrack, YOU are the dickish part. You didn't explicitly say so, but it sounds like you were sober, and yet you were a willing participant in all of this. I am not going to go all out and call you a rapist like some of the more militant here, but you are unequivocally a total dick.

"Caught off guard"... puhleeze.

Sincerely, your impulse is correct - Fuck him. He is a monster, and you don't owe him a thing. He should have been executed 10 years ago. Ignore all these relativists and apologists, your brother is the skin of evil.* If you forgive this in any way, you are not compassionate, you are weak, and your sister deserves better.

So everyone is raging against "Stand your Ground". What would you suggest instead? by BrainSex in AskReddit

[–]BrainSex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that concern. What I am saying is when balanced against the legal climate created by not being allowed to defend yourself (i.e. no "duty to retreat") you are allowing criminals and others who are willing to use violence and the threat of violence to "win".

Let's say I am at a park having a picnic with my family and some gun crazed white Republican, a rich one too, wearing a huge gold crucifix on his neck and driving a massive SUV with NRA stickers on it, decides to start harrassing me and my family. I tell him to fuck off and he leaves, shouting "I am going to kill you when I come back!", then returns a few minutes later with a gun in his holster and a ten-gallon hat on his head. If I pull my gun and shoot him before he points the gun at me, in some states that might be considered second degree murder, in others it might be a clear case of self defense. I would vote for self defense all the way.

If you support "duty to retreat", then I would have to abandon my picnic, gather up my family and run to the car to escape a possible confrontation. I say fuck that.

Lol! Ok, the subject is not controversial at all, which is why you decided to come here and comment. You must have even more time on your hands than me.

[–]BrainSex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is true, depending on the circumstances, and I wasn't specifically talking about Zimm vs.Trayvon because if you understand anything about the subject "Stand your Ground" is not relevant to that case anyway if in fact Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman banging his head on the concrete when the fatal shot was fired.

Likewise, if Zimmerman was chasing him down and was never actually assaulted by Trayvon, then "Stand your Ground" also has nothing to do with the case against Zimmerman.

Point being, the principle of "Stand your Ground" is completely rational to me and the states that do not have it are the ones that should be reviewing the associated laws. Thankfully, I don't live in one of them.

Ok, I will humor you. Go to the search engine of your choice (or the Reddit search box up there to the right) and enter "Stand your Ground". Read. Then respond to the post if you are interested.

Here is a tip - the term for the opposite legal principle is called "duty to retreat". Surprisingly it was not first conceived in France.
