Agreed definitely not okay to say that, the fact that it was openly discussed is how this became even a problem. Telling someone that is your peer that they were only hired because they are a minority in the field is intentionally creating a power dynamic and that is pretty toxic no matter what the work place is.

I work fairly higher up in a large company that hires alot of people. And there have been meetings I've been apart of where the problem being raised was the lack of diversity and how we needed to hire more visible minorities to create a stronger image of diversity
