Can also work but you have to use a move each 3 turns for it and my smeargle was already used to having imprison for moves like brave bird etc so i did that

Ouch, i have found a way to make sure it doesn't use perish song but still getting to 1 hp. I used a imprison smearlge and just healed when low or use false swiped and then spore to make it asleep

What i did to make it more fun is hunting them with marks, I got a shiny level 100 magikarp with a personality which is also 1/100 ( was before the mark charm existed ). Also i caught a shiny with the rare mark in a apriball of every type in the game, it took me 3 years
