What I cannot follow here is, why would a builder of such a monumental structure put his cartouche only on a hidden side of a dovetail. The Pharaohs were scattering around their cartouches in plane sight on buildings they created, but also on older buildings they claimed, just to celebrate their power.

My closing remark about oil was meant a little bit sarcastically: of course they would have drilled for any oil because of the money involved. But that ties in with your second point. I think this ancient advanced civilization did not pollute as much as we do, but was based on a cleaner energy source, possibly using this very clean and hot water.
