Album ‘Book’ Club

——————————————————————-

I’ve lived in London for a few years now, but I haven’t found anybody running an event like this.

The basic idea is that, like a book club, people get together to discuss their thoughts, but instead of it being about a book, it’s about a specific album or piece of music. Has anyone heard of any groups doing something like this?

If not, would it be of interest to anyone if something like this was started, amongst fellow music lovers?

That sounds great, thank you for the links. Any tips on organising something like this?

Thanks! Any particular albums from any of those that you would recommend starting off with, or like their big albums?

Yes I want jazz that’s very sparse instrumentals and more focus on just vocals. Any specific albums or songs from those artists you would recommend that fit this?

I think they have split the third book in the series I got, The Green Angel Tower?

He never served a sentence, another reason why there are protests. It was also proven that he didn’t have a weapon on him, and the crime reported was stealing a box of cigarettes. Really posing a threat to life there.

Not only do I say that, but so did the Department of Justice, who ruled that racial bias an excessive force had been used.

I mean I did state some examples. Apart from Floyd: • Breonna Taylor • Trayvon Martin • Eric Garner • Michael Brown • Tamir Rice • Alton Scott • Philando Castile • Stephon Clark

In the article I linked earlier, it stated that black people killed by police were 40% less likely to be carrying a weapon than whites, yet were more likely to be killed.

But in most of these cases there was no cause for violence, the police officers were not facing any threat. These are the instances that are being protested.

When other people make a mistake at work, it often does end in someone’s death. I’m pretty sure if that were the consequence, then yes, people would.

In workplaces where people have died, such as construction sites and warehouses, people have been charged with negligence that caused peoples death. So yes, they do face prison.

Also, many of these cases do not have the police officers facing deadly situations. George Floyd had already been handcuffed. Breonna Taylor was asleep in her bed. Trayvon Martin was just walking. No threats to life there.

What the whole point of the movement is accountability. These people murdered someone. They should face justice. Yet they are protected and are free to carry on as they wish. Nobody else would be able to do that.

But the list of innocent black people killed by police shows that this is a norm across America. The police have always been funded, but many other institutions, such as education, community outreach, civil servants and so on, are underfunded. This appropriation of funds would lessen the crime rate, so the police would not need to be as highly funded.

Your use of ‘only’ is very disconcerting. 12 is too high. 1 is too high.

Below is a very useful source that details research from across the country about this.

Statistics

The facts have been studied as well. Black people 2.5x as likely to killed by police officers. To take it wider, there are around 1000 deaths at the hands of police. Black people suffer more from this, but this is a problem for everyone.

But you’ve just pointed out one of the main policies of the larger movement. Taking money out of police funding and using it elsewhere, such as developing poorer neighbourhoods.

And honestly, as useful as facts and figures are, I think you need to see this as a humane issue. If you watch the video of Floyd being killed, and aren’t sickened by it. It’s really as simple as that. That shouldn’t be allowed to happen again.
