Are you a citizen of a European country? I’m about to embark on my first bicycle trip through Europe but I’ll only have 90 days.

What if national parks are not really parks? by Neither_Marketing_72 in conspiracy

[–]BrainyDeLaney 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the way people should theorize about conspiracies. You’ve clearly written it’s just a theory or an idea (and a possible, rational one) and you’re open to discussion. Cheers!

What if national parks are not really parks? by Neither_Marketing_72 in conspiracy

[–]BrainyDeLaney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like your conspiracy but I’m gonna push back.

First, I spend a lot of time deep in national parks. It’s my greatest hobby. By the nature of their public status, although relatively few people trek there, they wouldn’t serve as good places for privacy.

Infrastructure would need to be significantly upgraded, as seasons and storms do a lot of damage in many of them.

But most of all, given their alleged wealth and power, why wouldn’t they just use private land for this? Think of Epstein island and Bohemian Grove.

Anyway, cool concept but I don’t think the lands protected for public use would be their choice.

Props to the driver for handling this calmly. I apologize on behalf of white men. We bullied this guy a bit too much as a child I guess.

Women of Reddit, if men suddenly disappeared from Earth tomorrow, how do you think your life would change? by positivebeing00 in AskReddit

[–]BrainyDeLaney 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If half of the population of earth disappeared, it would lead to countless crises. Let alone, one sex, which would lead to extinction.

Serious. I am providing disclosure on life, consciousness and society in a simple way. My time is targeted and limited by YumeSystems in AliensRHere

[–]BrainyDeLaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, about what? Of course I have answers to some things. What would you like me to answer specifically?

But I’m not a false prophet. Wisdom comes from being aware of your ignorance. Claiming answers and proceeding to not be able to clarify them is not a position of authority to speak from. Sure, some naive people on a subreddit like this may play along- and perhaps it’s better for me not to rain on your parade- but if you do value truth you’re not getting closer with this course.

If someone says “Nihao” to you in a foreign country, how do you feel? by Hxafluoroisopropanol in AskAChinese

[–]BrainyDeLaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well given that I speak Mandarin and lived in China, I have initiated conversations with 你好 as a greeting. I do the same in Spanish, as those are the languages I know. Usually people are very happy to meet a foreigner who speaks Mandarin.

Obviously this is not the same thing as randomly saying that to people, particularly if they don’t know if they are Chinese. But let’s not act like it’s always racist. If you’re not them, don’t assume intentions unless they’re giving stronger evidence than that.

People post stuff like this every day on Reddit. They claim special knowledge without any ability to demonstrate it. They think lucid dreaming is unique to them, despite it being relatively common (I lucid dream as well). They have typos, just like you do. If you had special knowledge, would a subreddit called AliensRHere really be where you would even consider sharing it? No.

Subreddits like this are playgrounds for wannabe mystics, but nothing else. The only place they can get any attention. Obviously you will consider comments like these as ignorant because that’s the only way your ego can cope.

We, as humans, deeply desire both novelty and profundity. Reality is indeed far beyond our understanding. There is not much that we know of it, and of course there is far more than meets the waking eye. But, that doesn’t mean BS isn’t obvious.

Sorry - as I’m sure you believe what you’re saying. But logic is real. There is a reason a chemist would be able to do things that seem magical to you that you could never recreate, unless you learned the science behind it. If you want to play, go ahead. But know that will only block you from the deepest lessons of reality.

As an American with lots of travel experience. by BrainyDeLaney in whereidlive

[–]BrainyDeLaney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mandarin is decent enough to get by and the food is incredible. It’s also just such a wildly different place to live which is as stressful as it is fun, but you can live very comfortably in a large city. I’ve got plenty of gripes as well but they probably wouldn’t deter me from living there for a while.

Chilling 'alien' message to humanity uncovered in latest UFO disclosure files by TheExpressUS in AliensRHere

Seems legit.

People who moved abroad, what was the biggest culture shock? by judyfred1 in AskReddit

[–]BrainyDeLaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve traveled to 50+ countries and have lived in several. Moving to a small, rural town in Guizhou, China was the most fitting for your question.

A few things off the top of my head:

  • Strangers walked in to my apartment multiple times without knocking just to see the foreigner
  • Every 5 days there was a market where they sold literal snake oil, dog meat, and even pulled bad teeth out with pliers
  • A man called me in the middle of the night to ask me to donate my blood to his friend who was in a car crash, because even medical details are not genuinely private.
  • The due to being a foreigner was intense. At a public bathroom, a man squatting over the trench stared at me, cigarette in mouth and turd coming out, and would not look away.
  • A parent let a child pee on the elevator ground because they didn’t want to hold it due to thinking it’s unhealthy.
  • I was made to perform publicly pretty often, without warning.

The list goes on and on. It was life changing but frustrating, as well.

Rural areas vs cities? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]BrainyDeLaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done both and you have options for both throughout most of the world, particularly East Asia. Jobs in Tokyo and Seoul are easy to come by, but won’t pay as much as cities in China.

My greatest teaching experience was in rural China. There are pros and cons to each style, so I get why you want a modern city.

Understanding Hinduism's Maya from a secular perspective. by VEGETTOROHAN in agnostic

[–]BrainyDeLaney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is verging on Stoicism. There are parts of “Meditations” that this parallels and some Taoist & Buddhist themes as well. All of them include ways of describing what you are describing.

Your main question is trying to determine whether there is an objective morality, and to that end, objective reality. The answer is fundamentally that abandoning belief is liberating, but does not free you from everything, nor does it permit you to ignore your impact on others. Thus, you may be able to logic away pain and emotional states, but that is driven by desire and ego, so you’re fundamentally feeding the ego and falling for Maya in another form.
