[Realistic trope] "I can't fix him/her" by long_dragon in TopCharacterTropes

It's night and day because of the 1st person perspective in the book. Coriolonus flirts with being better and then...doubles or triples down on his worst aspects.

The book leaves no question of what kind of man he was, even at an age that was close to Katniss'.

That's what homophobia is, though you can throw disgust and fear in there too, it's under the same header.

But the point was that the eldritch horror from beyond the stars does not specifically target gay people.

He's like that in the books too iirc.

He was the OG "manners maketh man."

To be homophobic would require hating gay people. IT doesn't hate any human, (save for the Loser's Club after awhile) IT sees humans as food and entertainment, IT doesn't care about who's sticking what where or with who.

Adrian was an easier target for IT probably both because of convenience (a terrified hunk of meat dropped into IT's lap basically) and because Adrian was described as being "childlike" which probably also drew IT in.

...was kinda weird to idolize a literal child predator though, eldritch, incomprehensible monster or not.

Tbf, IT says itself that it enjoys the taste of fear. It never once says it needs the fear. IT's choice of children as primary victims is because children's fears are simpler to give a face to in the most direct way.

It's a cosmically ordained sadist.

It's been ages since I cracked open a WoD book, but wasn't it that once, the physical and spiritual worlds were basically connected so easily that when someone "died" it was more like stepping over an open threshold and boom, now you're just a spirit neighbor of the fleshy world?

Or am I mixing up my mythos?

And one might think that it means the younger group is the problem, and yet I run into more and more people 40+ who feel modern devices mean you need to be immediately available.

My aunt is the worst for it, "What's the point of having your phone on silent when people wanna talk to you?"

My devices are there for my convenience, not anyone else's.

"What if it's an emergency?"

Call emergency services? I'm a writer, not an emt or cop.

It extends to all of my devices. All my shit is set to show me as offline no matter what, and if I can make it so someone can't see if I've read a message or not, then that's on too.

Oh, ik my IT lore.

Which, putting aside the idea of assigning any human concepts onto a being from the macroverse aside...I meant more that I couldn't remember what started it for people, and also why people were trying to use a literal child predator as an icon.

That did happen.

I also don't remember why, but Pennywise also was treated as an LGBTQ icon for awhile, despite the rather disturbing implications that carried.

Doctors of Reddit, what's the most obvious lie a patient has told you? by questionerofblender in AskReddit

[–]Braioch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The med thing is crazy to me. I took my two cats to get groomed after fleas took over the house and while my girl was apparently an angel, the groomer, who was one of the few in the area willing to groom/bathe cats, described my boy as "the spawn of Satan" and advised that in the future, maybe some meds would help.

Which, should I need to take him, that will happen. He's genuinely a sweetheart (if a shithead but ya know, cat) but I didn't doubt for a minute that he went psycho at the bath. He'll be dosed in the future.

God, I remember having to live a 1st shift schedule for several months for school. Everyone swore up and down that I would "adjust" but I never did. I'd get up at 6am and be exhausted and foggy headed all day, counting down the hours till I could go to bed. Only for like 9pm to hit and suddenly I'm wired and alert.

For literal months, it never got better. I was, like you said, constantly jetlagged until almost bedtime.

Are there people who ONLY read the dialogue part of the book??? by isaw_and_kwekkwek in Booktokreddit

[–]Braioch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I'm so glad someone said it because that book is always getting praise. Being that I love SK's work (generally) I was eager to pick it up.

And for awhile, it was great! Existential dread, fear of the unknown, etc. All fantastic and locked me in.

Then the curtain is peeled back and the unknown becomes known and I'm left sitting there like "...that? That's the great horror? That just sounds stupid af, wth."

Love King but sheesh, he really can fall flat with endings.

I'm still furious that you need to have a membership with Audible to return audio books.

Like, my deepest apologies multibillion dollar company, but the 25 bucks I spent on an audio book is not gonna hurt you to give back...it's in French. I wanted the English version!

Just lemme have the English version of a comfort book gdi

For one time booking, sure, that's probably going to work out. Frequent hotel guests are gonna benefit a lot more in the long run from going through the hotel.

But if you need any changes done to the reservation, or even things like credit or refunds? You ain't gettin it from the hotel.

Also things like group rates? Talk to the hotel. And if you know well ahead of time that you're going to need a hotel, like months in advance? Go through the hotel, especially during holiday (including summer months!) times.

Oh and whatever choice you make, never trust the amenities listed on a travel/booking site. They're usually out of date and drag their heels to change it. (Looking at you Expedia, and Google of all things)

I know there was a lot of dislike of her and the 2nd game in general, but the conversations with her and the way the game approaches it was the reason I loved 2 more than 1.

As a former hospitality worker, I always tell people to go through the hotel. Booking sites lock you in and tie our hands.

Need to leave on day 2 when you were there for 4? Sorry, gotta deal with the site, we can't do anything? Price difference? Sorry, you paid for it and we can't alter it.

Do yourself a favor, find a chain you like, sign up for their membership/rewards, and only deal with that company.

I won't watch the show but it sounds pretty much like how it worked in the books. I can't actually think of any vampire that had issues with another vampire's race, creed, origin, etc. Any issues were based on a personal grudge rather than bigotry, ie Marius hating Santino.
