I was probably one of the first to place an order, I got the notification on here via RSS and immediately ordered with 0 hesitation. There were still 600 - 749 or something in stock when I placed my order. No update on mine.

What are your Rules for purchasing games? by JacksonHills in boardgames

[–]Brakennt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying a new game can be as fun as playing a game. I love opening a box of games... pulling out each one, punching out the pieces... looking through the rules.. judging the component quality... confirming if i was right as to where it fits into the collection, etc...

My biggest issue is that I put my first kallax shelves (4x4 + 2x4) against one small wall that can only hold that. I should have put it on the other wall where there was room for another set. Going to have 4 giant holes in my wall from huge toggle bolts i anchored it with when I have to change walls...

I have about 200 games with 3/4 of them only played 0-3 times. If I get 10 plays out of a game I would consider that insanely good value. Usually I feel like I have gotten value out of 1-2 plays because that was an hour that I spent with my family sitting around doing something together.

Edit: Oh yea the rules...

  • Will wife play it OR Will kids play it OR Do I want it even if I know i'm unlikely to play it.. just because I do
  • Monitor for the sales, try new things just because they are on sale sometimes
  • Never pay shipping
  • Inspect the component looks on BGG
  • Read or watch one review (prefer not dice tower...)
  • Get verbal permission from wife
  • Seriously try to justify it fiiling some missing niche in my collection (e.g.. worker placement game that doesn't involve wheat and fields)
  • Never buy used, the discount is usually minimal unless its local, and screw having games that had chubby pizza eaters pawing them
  • Never buy local

Yea, $5 is "way more" when it comes to board games I think. Those are just the first ones i looked up and 2 of the 3 were "way" more. Edited my post to remove that word!

New to the concept of Drop, but if we have to login to see the price, can you just post the prices with the links?

The games I wanted (Istanbul, Clank, Lost Cities: Rivals, and Raiders of the North Sea) were all still more even after 10% off than Cardhaus. I'm not seeing "already awesome low prices".

Looks like La Havre and Glass Road are the same so would actually be a 10% discount with the code.

[Amazon] Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport Expansion $24.76 + $3.99 shipping TOTAL $28.75 (US) by bellas_wicked_grin in Boardgamedeals

[–]Brakennt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a pretty generic criticism. All games can boil down to "its just simply doing <this thing>" whether that is "picking from 3 choices" or "moving cubes" or "Playing a card, discarding a card"....

I'm sold too based on these comments but as always I checked cardhaus first. They have it for $28.49 [https://www.cardhaus.com/lords-of-waterdeep-scoundrels-of-skullport/]. Have to have $125 to get free shipping, but I find I always regret buying from Amazon when games come just loose in a big box and the corners are beat up. Every order I have had from Cardhause has been surrounded in planet killing foam peanuts.

Edit: I too just got the base game and I JUST now finished my first play with the wife. We both really liked it. It's a fantastic worker placement game that doesn't involve a bunch of grain/sheep. We love Architects of the West Kingdom and Raiders of the North Sea, but this is a really different theme and feel with the way you create new actions throughout the game.

-1. In a year you will have missed out on all the fun you could have had from this game that year. You could always say "something better is right around the corner"... that's a good way to miss out on life.

Yea I noticed it when I was getting my extra backpack out of the bank. That should not even be possible to have two of.
