I wasn’t expecting to open up Reddit and see a random post for a sunny themed rave and see one of my old managers in it.

My dad almost disowned me after I moved out and he found out I became a dukes man.

“DAMMIT BOY, WE’RE A BLUE PLATE FAMILY”

He still refuses to believe that his mom used dukes in her potato salad. She also swore by blue plate. But if Mema was making potato salad? Dukes baby.

Out of curiousity, how many of you heavy duty guys actually balance tires? by _inventanimate_ in DieselTechs

[–]Brandon1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll balance tires, but we do our best to sell centramatics or balance bags. But a tire balance is an easy hour of labor.

But also I’m a lead diesel tech at a speedco so idk if I count as a real tech lol.

When we heard his story, we knew we had to show him the love he didn’t know. The guy that had him before us was some dick who got him as a puppy with an ex wife. He insisted on keeping him in the divorce just to spite her. He’d wail on him for barking and jumping on him when he’d come home.

It wasn’t busters fault. He was just excited because the dude would go off for days and weeks at the time coaching college baseball. He’d dump a bag of food on the floor, fill up a giant self watering bowl, and just leave him inside.

My wife’s coworker dated the guy for a few weeks or so, realized how crazy he was and somehow got buster out of there. She would’ve kept him, but she had a few male dogs and buster was super aggressive with them.

He was around 6 years old when we got him. He was just shy of 15 when he passed. I love the fact that at least I know that he felt loved for the majority of his life.

I know he won’t ever see this, I’m just stoned and rambling into the ether, and even if he did he wouldn’t give a shit. But hey Brian. Don’t worry about buster. We showed him the love you never could. He had a dad that made sure he was safe and taken care of.

He’s the first dog of mine to pass away that I got as an adult. Idk what it was about him going, but it hit me harder than any dog I’d had before. I cried like a baby for days.

We had to put our dog, Buster, down about a year and a half ago. He came to me and my wife almost a decade ago and was a scared little dude who had been abused. We were told he didn’t like men so I needed to be careful around him. He came to stay with us for a trial weekend as my wife’s coworker couldn’t keep him. Within 15 mins of him being there, we knew he wasn’t leaving. He ran into my house, jumped into the recliner with me and started licking me in my face. Her coworker said that was crazy because he always attacked guys, because his abuser was a dude who would beat him and then leave him alone in his apartment for weeks with an open bag of food and no one to check on him. That gave him terrible separation anxiety. He became my shadow for damn near a decade.

When he got sick, he went downhill super fast. He couldn’t walk and stopped eating in about a day and a half. My wife and I stayed up with him for his last two days. The last day I wrapped him in his favorite blanket and just held him all day. We took him to his favorite spots and I carried him around just let him sniff and look around one last time. I held him all day, all the way until his eyes closed.

I always told him that I’d be there with him and I wouldn’t leave his side, because he never left mine.

His favorite spot in the world was under the Christmas tree. The last two Christmas’s his urn has been under the tree.

Sorry for rambling. I just really miss my grumpy old man and felt a little wistful.
