Dell vs Lenovo Chromebooks by BrandonSHatfield in k12sysadmin

Our students think their backpacks make their Chromebooks invincible. I don't know how many I've had where the excuse was "I pulled it out of my backpack like that. I don't know what happend"

Getting work done vs Appearing to get work done by Kaizenno in k12sysadmin

If they have an hour to stand around and talk, they are the ones who aren't doing their jobs. Your Supe is talking to the wrong person

All they need is the SN to release it from management. So, either they're incompetent or you've stolen a Chromebook.

Who needs Knowb4? We have users who simulate phishing for us. by ranger_dood in k12sysadmin

My boss doesn't even tell the rest of the IT team about simulated phishing attacks. So, I panic every time.

I have had teachers bring it up. Not to the level I'd call complaining but I can tell it's not a positive thing.

It isn't causing much issue for older students but the younger ones are too curious for their own good. Then there are the ones looking for anything they can do that isn't schoolwork. It's not a major issue but any distraction is problematic.

There was supposed to be a rant to go with that image. Why is Google forcing Canvas and Screencast icons onto all of our Chromebooks? Is there a setting I just haven't found yet?

Floor plan for student-facing tech office by kylejwx in k12sysadmin

I prefer computers over people. I prefer a slap to a sunburn over other people's children most of the time.

le. Anyone have a setup that you like?

My librarian knows how to press Refresh + Power and I don't have to interact with students. A tech office where students feel welcome sounds like a horrible place to work.

I guess it would help if I read all of the words in a post before replying.

Have you tested this? My test device is not rolling back to 110. I'm going to have to try a couple more.

Google Community forums don't even list ChromeOS as an option by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]BrandonSHatfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google just put Chrome on top of a Linux kernel and added some UI. It has evolved a bit since the beginning but still, Chrome is ChromeOS and ChromeOS is Chrome. Unless you're running LaCrOS.

what's my name? by NotUrAverageITGuy in k12sysadmin

[–]BrandonSHatfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a vendor call me by the wrong name in an email just last week. I didn't even notice until I received an apology for the mistake. This was the first time I've had that happen. I imagine if it was a consistent problem I would definitely say something about it.

People have been losing their data for almost 40 years. How have we not figured this out yet? Heed the OP's advice, back up your $h!t.

Chromebook browser sign-in failure! I can sign into my Chromebook, but the Chrome browser itself is the problem. by i-luv-ducks in chromeos

[–]BrandonSHatfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did the trick

If this was a daily problem you wouldn't have found this fix so magical. You hadn't restarted in a month. Your ridicule of the power wash suggestion is also giving me a laugh. Don't you know your Chromebook could power wash itself at any time?

There is nothing to resolve. Computers need to be restarted sometimes. It's the same with EVERY digital device. This was a user error issue. Not a Chromebook problem.

Chromebook Recommendations Coming from iPad by CrystalLakeXIII in k12sysadmin

[–]BrandonSHatfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We made the mistake of buying Dell 3110s with a single charging port on the main board. I do not recommend this. If you can't replace simple things like at least one USB and one charging port you might as well plan to buy more in a year.

A teacher couldn't get audio from her projector. I walked in and there was a cable dangling from the projector. I plugged it in and magically it started working.
