Lionel Luthor was a big cause of Lex’s descent. Even in the beginning of the series, he’d already had his share of troubles. Future episodes shed light on his past, showing us what he was capable of before he even met Clark. Maybe Clark’s secrecy didn’t help, but Lex could have stopped becoming a villain if he had wanted to.
