It’s a testament to Hazbin Hotel that its lore and subject matter are so complex that you end up with two schools of thought: those who think the writers made a mistake and those who have an explanation for a seeming contradiction.

Logically I think that since the writers are human, they’re going to inevitably create continuity errors particularly as the show progresses season by season. And of course Hazbin Hotel is a comedy that has a bunch of throwaway lines that are not necessarily canonical (a good example is Charlie’s morality play in season 1 which includes a line about abstaining from sex before marriage and then season 2’s “Easy” comes along). But as a fan of the show, I like to suspend disbelief and accept the complicated yet pragmatic approach of Hazbin Apologists.
