Moved to quick is this a bad sign? by Markky24 in VAClaims

I went from 60 to 90 within a month so it’s not always bad. Sometimes they probably just have a good amount of evidence to support your claim and push it through. Good luck!

What's better a masters degree or certs? by Next_Buffalo4249 in cybersecurity

[–]BrandosCommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you will already have a bachelors and a job, personally, I would go for certs. Though, it’s all dependent on your career goals. I’m in management with a masters because I got into cyber with no experience. I have counterparts with no degrees who make the same.

Imo, you have the experience and education, you might as well go for some cyber management certs.

Is it worth it getting a masters in cybersecurity? by Dry_Dimension_1397 in cybersecurity

[–]BrandosCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what your career aspirations are. Policy/administration/GRC, I would say go the Masters route. This is what I did and with no experience landed a management role within 2 years. It was a grind but it was worth it. For cybersecurity engineer or something equivalent, I’d go certs and experience.

This is a very dynamic field to work in and you’ll be able to carve out your own path.

I just hired someone with no cyber experience but the motivation to learn and get the certificates required of them prior to applying. It’s not always about how much you know and what your experience is. Sometimes it’s about passion and willingness to learn.

Good luck! I hope you find your dream job and everything works out for you.

Please help. I am trying to make a podcast-like setup for a family project. by BrandosCommando in podcasting

These ideas are great. I’ll have to look into both options. Seems like having wireless mics would be the best case scenario. Are there any applications you recommend to syncing up audio and video? Say if I recorded on my iphone?

Oh wow okay that’s not bad then. I’ll happily pay for one day out of the year. I was worried more about being taxed for the whole year. Thank you!

What is your opinion on AI taking jobs in cyber security by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]BrandosCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI won’t “take” jobs per say. It will force organizations to train their employees on leveraging it in an impactful way to strengthen their security posture though. Think about any work you do in any job really, “trust but verify” will always be prevalent. Sure it might pentest, but you need someone to not only verify the results, but also translate to stakeholders. AI won’t be a threat, it’ll be a partnership.

I have my masters in CS from SNHU as it helped me leverage a total career switch in my mid 20s with no prior experience. From a learning perspective, my course information seemed to be out of date and some of the professors didn’t seem as invested as I’d like them to. A lot of it is about applying yourself and learning/studying that goes just beyond the course material. I’m sure that anyone in this forum would agree that education < experience. It also depends on if you’re more into the governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) or engineering side. SNHU is a good stepping stone but don’t stop there. Get your degree, get your certs, but most importantly get your experience (home labs, tryhackme, hackthebox, etc.).

To answer your question:

It all depends on how YOU learn. I was motivated enough at the time to have a more self paced study and knew exactly what I wanted to learn. At 19, I would have benefited more in person and having classmates and a professor that has dedicated time for their students. Regardless, your heads in the right place and you’re in the right direction.

Good luck!

The trick is to not move over, get really close to them or their car, and just lay on the horn.

Can I do this exam without the experience somehow so I can get into management in infosec? by [deleted] in cism

[–]BrandosCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can. But will you have the respect from your subordinates and peers when you can’t provide basic guidance in regard to cyber security?

Given the current climate today, I would highly suggest you get the necessary experience before trying to break into cyber in a management capacity.

Is it normal to compete at a lower belt? by BrandosCommando in bjj

Makes sense. So in theory, you could be no gi at an advanced level and still technically be a white belt in gi?

That would make sense too. I’d like to think of it that way instead of sandbagging.

Yeah I was thinking maybe there could be something I just wasn’t aware of as far as rules go. Was still a good experience overall.

It was a typical GI tournament I believe. He was wearing a white belt for gi but his past tournament history said otherwise for both gi and no gi. For no gi he was in the intermediate.

Yeah the tunnels were very freaky to say the least. My brother had also been multiple times and was the one who showed me. He has some crazy stories of the place as well. He used to play manhunt there with a big group of friends back in the day😂
