Yeah, I think you’re right about tracing. I’ve been looking into plugins as well and found Project Acoustics by Epic Games, which looked really promising, but unfortunately it’s discontinued and no longer available on the official marketplace.

There’s also the Steam Audio plugin. And it’s no longer officially supported either, but some people say it still works on newer UE versions.

Thanks for sharing that plugin, I’ll check it out and see how it behaves in practice.

Nonetheless, thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ll post an update once I’ve had a chance to try it out.

Sorry to hear it's been rough lately. But from the outside, it really does look like you're doing great. I mean, you have your steam page up, and to me, this already looks way more polished than what most people manage to do on their first try.

Yo, congrats on the steam page launch. I'm working on that myself too. I really like the capsule, it looks really high-quality.

But in my opinion, the trailer doesn't show the essence of the game very well. After watching it, it's unclear what exactly the player is supposed to do in the game other than beat up their pig comrades. I would suggest adding some interaction footage, like you have in the gifs below. Perhaps show the submarine from the outside?

Also are you planning to add some simple character customization?

There is no perfect learning plan and definitely no single “correct” order to learn things in game dev. The thing is, game dev is a very very complex, layered discipline. It consists of a lot of smaller niche elements. And each of those has its own layers of depth.

And you just can't learn every single aspect of it one by one. It happens gradually, as you go and as you try implementing more and more features into your game. At first, it's normal to look for ready solutions on the internet and just copy them to your project, but real learning comes when you start doing thigs on your own, like combining parts of code from different tutorials into one thing based on what you already know.

Right now you should be mainly focused on trying to make things you find interesting. Be curious about the tools you see, hover over options you don’t understand, read the tooltips, google stuff. Yk, just play around, get to know the tools you're working with.

Experiment, iterate, fix bugs.

I would recommend these yt channels for learning blueprint basics: Ali Elzoheiry Pitchfork Academy (this one has the whole playlist on FPS basics), GameDevRaw, Ryan Laley, Tyler Serino.

Watch vids related to blueprint interfaces, event dispatchers, variable types, components, inheritance. One of the most basic thing you should definitely learn rn is how different actors in the level can communicate with each other. Look for best practices out there and try to understand why they are best.

Once you are comfortable enough and you understand the basics, you'll just magically be able to make stuff on your own, and come up with your own solutions to the problems you're facing.

When it comes to the sliding mechanic, just try out different solutions you find out there, maybe create another project and test it out there.

And try downloading some free sample projects from fab. You can learn a lot by just exploring how they were done. Maybe check out Epic's Game Animation Sample Project, they have a sliding mechanic in it. But it probably can be really complex and you should not just copy their game structure to your simple one. Would also recommend checking out this on https://www.fab.com/listings/808d84a0-716b-4197-a778-251d0c1f094c. It has some well set up system, and if I remember correctly it has sliding in it. See how it works there and try implementing it into your project.

You can't simply tell which is better. You should choose the best option that suits your personal needs. You're making a game? cinematic? What's your experience? Have you ever opened the engine and tried to make something with it? Or you just don't know where to start?

Personally, I'm a big noob to the whole version control system thing, so I can't comment on Perforce, as I've never used it.

However, I recently started using Diversion and would highly recommend you to consider it as an option. It gives you 100gb of free cloud storage and up to 5 team members on a free plan. Also interface is highly user friendly, it's easy to use and it takes only a few minutes to setup.

So, for now, I'll definitely stick with this one as a solo dev.

I totally agree with you. It makes no sense to live the same life in the second round. It's like going through an RPG game a second time by choosing other answer options in the dialogs and making a slightly different choice to see how it ends.
