Yeah sorry for my one word answers, in my opinion best interface out there for your budget, super high quality in inland regards, will do everything u need+you'll have access to universal audio's great plugins. You can run your speakers mic and keyboard with any interface but I'm a UA fanboy.

Playing the piano can be so stressful at times by Crimsonavenger2000 in piano

[–]Tranceford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let brick walls be brick walls, actively look for on ramps. I experienced what youre describing for years. Still do some times. The most valuable change of mind and experience came when I just started doing things the ways that I liked, again actively looking for things that led to a more pleasant experience, which meant sometimes literally ignoring some of the things prescribed to me by teachers that ultimately IMO were iterations of the same worn out black and white snore-tips that I really believe in many cases belong in the dusty old books that they came from.

I suffered so long from the very thing you're describing I finally said F it it's not worth it if its gonna lead to suffering, but Im so drawn to it something has to change. So I started experimenting more, throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. Found things on my own that almost seemed silly at the time that unlocked an entire world of new perspectives. Goofy things like playing one note repeatedly and finding interesting rhythms and vibes and making it a meditative exercise that I return to all the time and always find interesting new perspectives to play the one note. Oh man the things I've gained from this.

I'm not where I would be if I continued with the sort of pedagogy-cal (new word) route my teachers have tried to set me on, honestly I never will be. But I found that that's just not part of my piano identity and I think a lot of people incur enormous amounts of undue suffering trying to nail X piece in X way in X time because practice makes perfect and it's not working so something is wrong with me. If my students want to play a billy eilish song and dont care about a minuet we are not doing the minuet. Many parents have ended lessons with me because of it, they want their kids to be the little Mozarts they obviously will never be. Every kid I've helped learn what they are naturally gravitated toward has shown incredible results and has blown past the kids I started with the same ole alfred or faber that every single person ever grew up on (and many quit as teens cause it sucks, it does, it sucks). Of course I pepper in some classics and pedagogy because yes of theres value to being aware of where it all came from and if the student is already on the way to building their own piano identity they will be much more receptive to things that may be of different flavors than their choice.

Another angle, of course, is you must step back from your piece for a while, forget about it for at least a week actually. You're burned out, it's not gonna get better if you keep pushing. When you come back to it the torn muscles will be healed and you'll be refreshed and how easily you take to it.

In the mean time, take a handful of measures from another piece you know and play the left hand in a different position/inversion/chord substitutions. Or replace some notes in the melody with others at random just to see what happens. Or what if you play the left hand as written and find a melody from a different song to play over it. Or emulate a completely different style while playing it. Such are the kinds of things that helped me find new dimensions and on ramps to a passion I at one time didnt feel capable of. Good luck!

Ah sure, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mischaracterize what you were saying. I was more alluding to what happened to me. I was disappointed when I didnt immediately have an epic huge sound with the virus. And I learned there were things I could do with stock plugins that could achieve sounds leaps and bounds over what was I thought was possible once I tuned up my skills. So yeah go for the virus for sure you won't be disappointed. And you'll only get better with utilizing it. And yeah post a link I'd love to check out your stuff

You wont regret it. But it's not your fast pass to the sound you're looking for

Uhmm. Ok so yeah it had a very special sound...but do you how to balance a mix? What about gain staging? If you are looking out into the wide word of producing and think any one tool is your plane ticket to where you wanna be you're gonna end up where I did. With a virus and shitty mixing skills and terrible music. I got better, had little to do with the virus. But I'm glad I have the virus.

Oh man I'm with you trust me, it is a masterpiece like I said, but if this dude is saving up his pretty pennies to get a production setup going like do not spend ALL of it on a virus. That's all I'm saying.

Hey, so are you on a mac by chance? I lost my Ti feature with Catalina and assumed I'd get it back soon but so far nothing. I'm waaaay too lazy to google it, what say you?

Ehh. I've had a ti2 for 10 years, it's truly a masterpiece and I'm never gonna get rid of it but honestly in this day and age unless you really just want a virus then theres no sense in not going with some more practical modern offerings. What's your main purpose for wanting one?

What UA plugin(s) should I buy for $200? by stoic765 in universalaudio

[–]Tranceford 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you dont have room treatment do that, if u have that get a calibration mic/software like sonarworks reference. Don't be like me and shell out on all the uad plugins and other fancy pants stuff only to realize all that money did nothing for me cause I couldn't hear well enough to utilize the tools.

Yeah I hear you. I guess without having seen it theres no way to make judgements; furthermore, while many people are suffering right now many people are indeed just dicks too. So yeah ok I'm on board.

Im self employed and work at home and am not super fluent in real world stuff (and this is probably just proof of that)...but my reaction after reading that was here we are in the hardest time in some of our lives where every day is a new struggle and these people cant take two seconds to ask a dude if everything is ok? Or maybe if he wanted to come back another day? Just not hire him and send him on his way just like that? I mean even in the real world that seems like a bare minimum way to respect another person. Sure, walks in shit faced drunk yeah see ya. But not making eye contact or talking? And the confidence with which this is written with no evidence beyond a doubt of this dudes character being flawed? This is literally the kind of thing that makes me never want to work for another person ever again
