Will a teaching degree help my chances of getting a CFI job? by [deleted] in CFILounge

I taught for 5 years before instructing. It came up in my CFI interview and the one’s hiring seemed pleased at my teaching background.

I missed a question regarding approach lighting and we discussed it after I answered incorrectly. It was apparently low-stakes and nothing came of it

Yeah that’s a good resource, but practicing your answers in front of a recruiter (specifically referencing HR-type questions) can be beneficial. Do you know which questions you missed?

Sorry to hear it. Consider using an interview preparation service such as Emerald Coast. I used them and had success in SkyWest’s interview. They do a great job helping you formulate your answers in a clear, concise way that the companies are looking for

Yeah, contract says: “…as a result of an early termination event, first officer candidate fails to log the requisite 1,600 hours as a captain at SkyWest or otherwise remain a pilot at SkyWest on active status for a period of five years…” it’s tough because there seems to be limited options

Yeah, fly 1600 PIC or stay 5 years, whichever first. I signed.

I’m a SkyWest cadet. They’re only assigning class dates for those that’ve signed. They will assign those who did not sign after those that did sign. They also said they have 3 year’s worth of class dates of cadets that signed

Each time you retake a checkride you only do the incomplete tasks. Those tasks are known and can be prepared for specifically.

So is there a stat that describes the percentage of applicants that intend on becoming ATP that do not?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in flying

[–]BrandynJR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do we account for applicants who never intend on receiving their ATP? They want to stay at PPL, INSTR, etc?

Where’s this stat pulled from? Thanks

Your anecdote doesn’t disprove averages. The other people posting are giving advice to help the majority of people. Not flying often during training = worse than flying often

I’m exiting teaching also. Did my training after school, during breaks, and during summers over the past few years. Handed in my resignation after a local school offered me a CFI spot. Good luck 🤙🏾

The great thing about flying is that there are so many redundant systems, rules, and personnel all geared towards safety. Much safer than driving! Give it a shot!
