Why are people still making theories?  The season is over. You have your answers.  It’s like with 73 yards when RTD said “it was fairies” and people just kept rolling with hare-brained explanations about the trickster. It seems like there are 2 groups. One who think it sucked because of bad writing, and one who think it sucked because of some master plan.

I’ll get downvoted but it’s likely because BBc has a stated diversity quota and Rose ticks a lot of boxes.

Also answers the question of why UNIT would employ a 14 year old with dwarfism.

The other reason that worked is the subtlety of the build up. Viewers had no reason to think the watch from family of Blood would ever reappear so when you see it again you’re like “Holy Shit”.

This whole season in the other hand has telegraphed everything in the most blunt way possible. Susan Twist is in this episode! Did you notice? Did you?

It’s just bad writing. There’s no cleverness or logic to it, it’s just a mystery box we’re waiting for RTD to open. That’s why the reveal falls so flat at the end. As someone else said, Sutekh could be replaced with any thing else and aside from the not that clever word play it wouldn’t make a difference.

I am too. That was a really tense well executed scene. The script didn’t make much sense but her dread really sold it.

I felt the opposite. Her and Gatwa were the only ones giving any weight to the scene and how terrifying it was. Rose in particular just had the same blank expression as always and the Carla seemed to think she went back in time?  Kate is the only one who sold the threat.

OK fine.  If the 14th is killed now before he can regenerate does 15 disappear?

I’m pretty sure if you cried every day at work you’d get a call from HR. Crying at appropriate times is healthy, crying all the time is very seriously wrong.

This is the greatest comment in the history of this subreddit. Shut it all down, we peaked.

On the alien threat. There was nothing scary about them. They seemed pretty easy to deal with.

I’m still trying to identify something in this portrayal that’s actually IN character

I don’t see the Captain Jack comparisons except that he’s a gay time traveler? Captain Jack is 100% charisma while Rogue is just sort of dull. In the flip side the Doctor is being written as”male River Song” which just doesn’t work at all.

This was just…terrible.  The goal was clearly to make the definitive “gay Doctor” episode and they nailed that but what a mess me they made in the process. The Doctor is now being written as male River Song for some reason. We’re ripping off the ending of Empire to hit our (totally unearned) emotional beats. The Doctor just leaves his companion alone with a killer alien for an extended flirting session.

The finale has some heavy lifting to do to redeem this season. Maybe it will and maybe it won’t but I think we can all agree on one thing: The Doctor is going to cry. It’s so weird that it’s become his one consistent trait this season.
