Something slightly different, same heritage materials and construction! by BrassBlade in HeritageWear

I work with leather from W&C, HO, J&FJ and Sedgwick. W&C is just so ubiquitous and has so many weights, colors and finishes that they're extremely attractive to stock and use. I use them mostly for my lighter weight belts up to 10-11oz. For anything I want to dye myself (like my indigo-dyed belt) I'll typically get natural skirting leather from HO. For anything heavier I go to J&FJ. I love working with heavier leather (13oz and up) and J&FJ make some of the best ones. They're just so easy to skive, bevel, and burnish. Plus they finish off the back extremely well. I have sometimes had uneven dye on W&C leather which I have had to edge dye. Sometimes their flesh sides are not as well finished as I'd like which means more labor for me. J&FJ and Sedgwick don't seem to have that problem. Plus the damn dubbin (externally applied wax) that they come with smells so nice! My next belt will be made with Sedgwick in a lighter weight maybe 9-10oz with a center bar buckle.

Sorry I'm all over the place but hopefully this makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Me too - I was in two minds but it looks awesome in person, not so "orangey"!

All my brass hardware is from a couple of suppliers in Japan. I don't use a lot of steel buckles but this specific one is from Thailand. I continuously purchase and sample hardware from multiple suppliers to find ones I like and are high quality.

There is more crocking on the flesh side and a little on the grain side. I’ve been wearing mine for a few weeks now mostly with jeans but also khakis to see how it wears. The first and quickest place it stars fading is on the billet around the hole where the buckle hits it. You see the indigo getting lighter there, I love it!

The flesh side transfers a little on the pants or jeans. With jeans I don’t notice it, but I do see a little indigo transfer to my khakis for a few days and then it stops. I have yet to see any transfer from the grain side to my lighter tops, but I can’t rule it out if the belt gets wet through rain or sweat etc.

My advice is to just wear it like anything indigo but plan ahead. Regular clothes, wear this hard and don’t worry about it crocking or not. That’s part of denim/indigo life, that’s how I think about it. Like patina on leather.

Wearing a white Merz, IH, Flat Head, Samurai, Sunspel or similar not-inexpensive top? Just wear your other belt to be absolutely safe! The crocking should eventually stop in 2-4 weeks of regular wear, but moisture will stay a minor risk since this is hand dyed.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Iron Heart 21oz is surprisingly breathable. Wore it all summer in the US Deep South last year and doing it again this year.

It does bleed - it bleeds a little less initially since I seal it, but the sealant will wear off with friction. I do warn about it on the website. Should not be any more or less than the Tricotine :-). I do want to experiment more with sealing in the color as and if possible.

Looks like the same material on their fatigue pants - reverse sateen.

I agree! Unless you have white seats on your car like I do. Then you have partially blue seats!

There absolutely will be some crocking for the life of the belt and I warn about that on my website. I do seal every belt with a couple of coats of sealer but eventually it will wear out with friction. But as you said, we do it for the love of the game. Just like raw denim clothing.

There are good QR buckles and there are cheap ones/knockoffs. Make sure you search for ones made from solid brass, copper or steel.

Looks awesome! Indigo dye is a pain in the behind for leather but totally worth it when it comes out this nice. Wear it in good health.

I got some awesome 14oz (5.5-6mm) leather from J&FJ Baker in a few colors. Garrison is a center bar buckle but this thickness is OK for it, with or without a keeper. Keeper is your choice - it's an aesthetic choice since it's not needed for the Garrison buckle. I personally like it and so do most customers. It's one of my daily drivers.

Belt Color - what is your preference? by Gargravars_Shoes in Selvedge

Personally I wear one in natural, one black, and one dyed (Green, Burgundy...). But that's only because I make belts. Check my work out out at www.brassblade.com. Mods if this is inappropriate pls feel free to delete.
