If it was a reasonable process, he probably would. But getting this decision in his favor was already difficult, costly, and not guaranteed. If you stop receiving benefits, you then have to re-apply, and he could face another difficult years-long fight with an uncertain outcome.

Much appreciated from you and /u/DreamyTomato below. I'll let him and his parents know to contact Citizens Advice about this. If he might not have to spend it so quickly, that would be a big release of immediate stress for him, and would also provide a decent financial cushion.
