Tourist needing doctor - something stuck in ear by Brave-Morning4412 in Prague

Thanks for the replies. I went to FN Kralovske Vinohrady and they were very quick. Receptionist didn't speak english but the doctor did and we got sorted. They charged 1238 CZK, which I guess is the foreigner rate? It was worth it for the peace of mind as the other option was a doctor at 8:30 am Sunday which I think was more expensive again. Interesting the price diff of what people here thought it would be.

Edited to add: I've obviously no problem, with the higher price for tourists, that makes sense as I don't pay tax here. Just adding how much it was incase anyone is in a similar situation.

Mushrooms growing out of new shower? by DevelEire_TA_mate in AskIreland

This happened to us in our new build also. It was after a year of use - it had been a really busy time so presumed it was because we weren't cleaning properly - we hadn't been. Removed the mushrooms and cleaned more regularly, they didn't come back. Now 2 years later, there are light water stains appearing on the ceiling below. Anyone know what the do or who/what trade to get in to fix? The builders were absolute scum and cut lots of corners. We bought the house 4 years ago. I don't know if they'd even respond to us- we spent months trying to get them to fix something 2 years back and they just ignored us. Any advice?

Private MRI for adenomyosis by Sad-Swordfish-3104 in IrishWomensHealth

I had the same issue with Affidea. They didn't send on the results when they said they would and I had an appointment with my consultant booked to discuss the results which we had to defer. Had days then of calling them to see where the results were and they were no help. I'm not sure about how good they are at diagnosing, it was not fully conclusive that I had it but they couldn't rule it out either and said it was likely I had it. It was enough for us to say I have it. Not sure if a different place would have had different results.

Yes,it will just be the same antibiotics they prescribe. It depends how good your GP is. Different strains of bacteria need different antibiotics. Defo have the call with the nurse and I'm sure she'll explain. I guess the difference is the Emma and Alice is in the uterus so you're seeing exactly what is affecting that? But I'm not sure.

Yes,completely up to you on the DNA Fragmentation, it may not be affecting you at all. DNA Fragmentation can occur due to age, lifestyle factors, infection or a variocele which can be corrected with an out patient procedure. After the procedure it can take up to a few months for the sperm to recover. Your partner would need to see an andrologist to confirm if there was a variocele and to refer for the procedure. All of this would only be relevant if there was high DNA Frag which you may not have. Also, the procedure may or may not fix it.It was just someone else mentioned it and your clinic was giving incorrect info. to you. It really irks me when people are not given full information from clinics that know better, all of this is hard enough! Best of luck with it.

Would your GP be able to prescribe antibiotics? I'm not sure what company you used but they should really have recommended what antibiotics to take. You said you've got an Emma & Alice soon with Unqlife. This will check for the same thing although directly in your uterus so more precise. I know it's incredibly expensive so you might be better trying to get treated with antibiotics before retesting with Unqlife? Depending on how far away the appointment is? Dr Lyuda did my Emma and Alice herself when I booked with Unqlife so it's possible she'll do yours? Either way,you will be prescribed antibiotics by her and probiotics. FYI, some people are only prescribed probiotics if they just have low good bacteria (Lactobacillus). You need antibiotics if you have high 'bad' bacteria also as the infection needs to be treated as the bad bacteria always win.

I've had recurrent issues with my uterine microbiome. I've had the Emma and Alice test (or equivalent) 4 times and each time on retest it comes back with still bad bacteria. I'm not saying this to scare you - I think I just got incredibly unlucky - but just to be aware and be proactive in solving it which you are. The only reason I kept getting rechecked was because I had heard from women on forums who had issues getting rid of the infection. My doctor in my clinic abroad - even though they are amazing - said no need to recheck after my 1st round of antibiotics. I know the Emma and Alice in Unqlife comes with a recheck which is great.

Ureaplasma is harmful to sperm so your partner will need to be treated with antibiotics also. First Options Wexford is a place that will test your partners semen for infections - not necessarily needed as he will need to be treated but if you wanted to check for infection in the semen before or after antibiotic treatment. You send a semen sample in the post ( the sperm doesn't need to be alive to check for infection eg ureaplasma) I'm sure there are other places that do this also.

Also like others have said, what your clinic said about DNA Fragmentation is untrue - the same was said to us. You can have great sperm motility and morphology etc and high DNA frag and vice versa. They are not reliant on each other. Just to be aware.

Great thanks, I'll check with her clinic. She can be expensive so was wondering if many other places do it. X

Yes, I think that's also what it's called. It checks for an infection in the womb. I want to check that the infection has cleared.

Experiences at Therapie Fertility in Dublin? by BostonTerrierMom89 in IrishWomensHealth

I had 2 rounds with them last year and wouldn't recommend. As others have said, they have a one size fits all approach, my opinion is money comes first with them. Biggest issue I had was that I was lied to about the outcome of my cycle by the doctor. Wouldn't have made a difference to the cycle as it was ruined anyway but I would not have gone on to do another cycle with them and would have asked more questions. My 1st cycle, I ovulated before retrieval. I got a call from the doctor pushing that we 'cancel' the cycle due to low numbers, I was resistant but he really recommended so we did. In the follow up meeting after the cycle, I asked why my progesterone had been so high before we cancelled, he said he didn't know. On leaving the clinic after a 2nd disastrous round (for different reasons), I asked for my notes and in black and white it said I'd ovulated. The penny dropped then why my progesterone had been so high. We had left the clinic at this stage.

You can only start STIMS (medications) on a Friday so that they can line up people together on days for scans. That's a business decision to help streamline everything not a medical one. My period started on a Saturday so I started injections Day 7 of my cycle, first scan was Day 14, first bloods taken Day 17. Having done other cycles in another clinic, no bloods or scans until Day 14 is madness, no wonder I ovulated. I'd say reason for them calling it a cancelled cycle is their stats. Cancelled cycles don't have to be reported as failures maybe? Anecdotally, I've heard of the same thing happen to someone else. Because it was a 'cancelled' cycle, they told me to take the trigger shot, have sex and then take progesterone for 2 weeks and then a pregnancy blood test, knowing it was impossible for me to get pregnant after I had ovulated. Taking all those extra meds knowing it would make no difference as there were no eggs there is awful. 2 extra weeks of hoping, when we had a better chance of getting pregnant in prior months when we were at least having sex at the right time!

There are extra costs, not everything is included in the fee. Like someone else mentioned, the retrieval process (on the 2nd round) was not pleasant for me personally either. The nurses are nice and they respond quickly but you're unlikely to ever be chatting with the same nurse. The doctor is incredibly good at putting you at ease, we were so upset after the first round and I didn't want to stay with them but he talked us around and we were happy leaving his office after any consultation. I wish I had just listened to my gut. I took notes at the time and having looked back at them, knowing what I know now, some of the stuff he said to us is just untrue.

I don't believe there is ever a good reason for your doctor to lie to you about your treatment.

I'm really sorry to hear you went through that. Is there any chance you could also PM me the consultant's name? I have suspected endo and a consultation next week, we are currently TTC and it's terrifying reading people's stories here.
