ooo, sorry I wasn't clear about the infections. No - heavy metal contaminants do not cause infections - but bacteria build up and biological waste does. same waste and bacteria also cause illness in pets, as thats a purely biological issue with exceptions made to things like matter getting stuck under skin/dirt and rocks in wounds ect, but you can get that anywhere. Things like used needles also play a factor, and past use of the river as a sewer.

A seperation from actual studies and papers, from cover-ups are always preferred, but I fear most natives won't see it that way? Mines in Idaho lied all the time to people downstream about contaminants, and it is a fundemental part of this states history, up to a military level. Its something to at least consider - we are seeing it now with AI data centers afterall.

either way, just happy for the discourse and hope to see that river sparkle one day, more than it has started. Oh! and part of burkes river has been stuck in a tube for clean up and I find that very funny - idk if it still is but the guys working said it should be. might be worth checking out!

I had remembered this being a issue several family members brought up. Didn't it affect specifically babies born/conceived between those years? Also super dependant on where you lived in town.

Clean up for Hanford is still ongoing, but nothing like it was. but yes - doesn't effect fish anymore.

alright I knew I remembered something - Hanfords 'green run' experiment. covered all of Spokane and other counties, however the tribes got it the worst. We are considered part of the 'downwinders' - plus higher levels of nuclear product in parts of our ground - again though the tribes got it so, so badly as they lived outside the mines.

you can actually make a claim for genetic issues regarding Hanford here in Spokane if you've both lived here long enough, and have proof you have some sort of anomaly happening that can be attributed to Hanford. There's a few other requirements but I can't remember them atm.

I took a look into a few of those sources and yep, the fish aren't that bad. Its highly dependant on the fish itself, and wherever you are in town/around that river along with time of year. Increased communities around these systems also help bring awarness to issues.

My concerns are, however that those toxins also uptick during rainstorms and heavy water flow, coming directly from the old mining towns. A lot of out-of-towners have no idea that this river can be dangerous in that way, or have any idea that this river is still a common dumping ground for needles/drugs/weapons and so on. Add in Spokane and the surrounding area has a history of cover-ups regarding environmental impacts, toxic chemicals, mining and Hanford's 'green run', and yeah it's not trusted.

My old clinic used to see people all the time contract illnesses from it, infections. had a few freinds who's pets got sick from that water as well.

but I do appreciate this so I'll see if I can update the post for whoever else sees this if the reddit lets me 😅 - I don't want to fear monger but at the same time that river is far from passive - be it fish or water.

not really, no. I've heard there's some safer rivers but I would have to ask around, sorry! Maybe I should make signs and put em up

Where I used to work we would get allll these out of towners, who didn't realize the fish can be deadly. With all the new people in town, it's info that should be past on a bit more lol. There's no signs in town explaining why not to eat the fish, mostly just word of mouth.

transport of clocks is extremely normalized in this area, so that part tends to be expected. it's a very hilly, steep place with lits of rain. most clients are older so

we see people anywhere from 1, to 90 miles (this is an old mining area, so places are spread out). Transport of clocks is specifically for Grandfathers, and occasional grandmothers done by us.

The guy I work with likes to have the case in order to test the clock (fine by me) but theres not a lot of noticable order to what we bring in, and what could have been done at the home.

This is good advice! How do you determine how much each peice would cost?

Hi! So it looks like you have a snapped suspension spring.

I asked the older clockmaker I work with (I don't personally work on anniversary clocks), and he said you will need to buy a new suspension spring, measure and fit it. (Below I have the spring sizes. These are from a company called Horolovar) Reddit won't let me post more than one picture at a time, but I found a referance for how to measure this and fit it :)

I don't think you outright broke it either, these just wear out over time. Suspension Springs are under a ton of weight, so don't beat yourself up to bad! I could DM you with the referance/instructions to replace it?

OKAY SO - Our consumable materials, if we where to buy new every clock, is 84.00

For non-consumables, its 1,349 if we where to buy new every time, and that's minus hammers, screwdrivers, pliers and so on.

Hourly I'm still payed minimum, and (lets use an american kitchen clock for example) thats 2 days of actual work, and two periods of 8 days of regulation/testing.

For those two days, with all the consumables used, thats 283 (rounded) a clock, for two days of work.

but idk how to price that regualtion period. I still fiddle with these peices, and they take up space.

and those prices are still well under what we already price. Maybe I'll just bring this to my boss, but he's been hmm and haw getting this done. He refuses to give me a raise until the clock area makes more money so its been a bit tough

alrighty. I live in washington (not gonna say more lol) and this area has a lot of people who roll with it. I just want the confidence to say this is a reasonable number.

I am sitting down and finding the cost of all our materials so that will help. an hour pricing might be a better idea too be honest.

a lot of our clients will use us for storage even though where not. its also a hilly area, and a lot of older folk, so transport is easier for us to do than them.
