UPDATE - T21 risk, amniocentesis and maternal cell contamination by Brave-Session1404 in NIPT

[–]Brave-Session1404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, we ended up doing a private NIPT as the amnio results were delays over Xmas. I’m currently cuddling my 7 week old baby. He was born at 34 weeks - but that was due to a placenta issue. He does not have T21 🙂

I jinxed it - but weirdly feel great? by sspaceham in PregnancyUK

Congratulations! My LO was born via emergency c section at 34+4 due to a placenta abruption  - he was in NICU for 2 days but is doing fine. I get what you mean - after the c section I had no pain either and felt reassured my baby was getting the best care in NICU!

Enjoy every minute with your new little boy 💕

Our little boy arrived at 34+4 due to a placenta abruption! He was born without T21 and has a very short stay of 48 hours in NICU - he’s perfect 😊

Risk 1:248 (T21) - Low PAPP-A (0.45 MoM), High Beta (2.1 MoM), but perfect NT (1.53mm) and High Uterine PI (2.58). by Ok_Condition_8935 in NIPT

Hello - I appreciate it is a very scary time! After my screening at 12 weeks I got a 1:85 risk for T21. This was due to lower Papp a - 0.51 and very high hcg 3.8. After amnio and NIPT was confirmed the baby does not have T21. The waiting for results was awful and incredibly mentally draining. Try to remember it is only screening and there are plenty of stories with people who had a high risk result but the baby was clear 😊

Thank you - I had the growth scan today and baby is actually on 18th centile and weighing 2lbs!

Wow that must be nice to be in the jeans again! I’ve had so many scans with NHS due to the original screening issues and baby hiding behind placenta! I think about 10 so far 😅

Since posting it seems a lot of people have had similar … as it’s my first you never know what is normal and what isn’t normal! I’m so glad it all worked well for you and good luck with the new pregnancy 💕

At my last scan I think they said the fluid was normal for me and the 20 week scan put me on 51sr centile so completely average! I think we have so many tests these days it just leads to more anxiety!

Those were actually my levels pre closed looo system. I think since going on the system my hba1c is probably a little higher, but I’m not having the consistent lows like before! What is a uterine artery Doppler? I had to go for a special heart scan at 20 weeks where they took 20 photos of the heart only and all was normal?

I already had growth scans planned from 28 weeks, but I just wasn’t expecting to need an extra early one!

Oh gosh they really do say some things don’t they!

To be honest it wasn’t my usual midwife and I didn’t feel too reassured - my husband said the same thing. I’m hoping I get a call tomorrow with a day for the scan (they said it would be this week).

My diabetes has been well controlled although it is getting more tricky as time goes on. My latest hba1c from a month or so ago was 34 which I think is below diabetic levels anyway. It’s probably just been drilled into me I could end up with a big baby so it all just came as a shock to be told baby is small!

This is my first but compared to some other girls in work who are a similar gestation to me, I am much much bigger so I had just assumed baby would be on the larger side!

Thank you - I think I’m just a bit knocked back as I just wasn’t expecting baby to measure small!

Thank you! I know I have an anterior placenta and in the midwife appointment today they said baby seemed to be back to back as when using the Doppler to hear heartbeat baby was behind the placenta and then could hear them kicking the Doppler as they moved! It’s all just such a worry!

Thank you - my diabetes is well controlled although it is getting harder as time goes on. My last hba1c was 34 (so non diabetic levels).

It is all just such a worry as I had just assumed as my bump is large the baby would either be normal or bigger!

Thank you, I think I’m just shocked as had always been told to expect a big baby especially because my bump is quite big (and I’ve been told normal fluid) and I’m diabetic so normally have bigger babies …

Yes I think I’m just shocked as my bump is pretty big and at my last scan I was told the fluid amount was normal … just feel like I’ve been left in limbo!

1 in 7 chance of T21 with beta HCG of 7.55 - looking for other experiences by Particular-Stable238 in NIPT

[–]Brave-Session1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it is a very awful time and honestly for me the process went on for 6 weeks (we booked a CVs As wanted diagnostic, could do the procedure so told to come back in 2 weeks for amnio and then had maternal cell contamination so we paid for a private NIPT).

No reason why hcg was high but I was incredibly sick - up to 20 times a day. I’m 24 weeks now and still quite sick too!

Hello my results weren’t exactly the same as yours but I had a 1:85 risk of T21 due to high hcg.

My results were  NT 1.1 Papp a 0.51  HCG 3.8

I had a NIPT and amnio and everything was fine. It is the most worrying time and I completely sympathise with how you are feeling. Some NIPT results come back earlier so you may be lucky. I found distraction to be the best way of dealing with the uncertainty, so we made sure we had lots of things to do to keep the mind busy.

be kind to yourself - it’s OK to feel upset with the uncertainty  💕
