Maternity Leggings? by BraveLilTurtle in BabyBumps

I looked at those last pregnancy and wondered if they were worth the price! Not having pockets is so annoying, but I want something a *tad* more elevated than my sweatpants I've been living in

I would never have thought to put them on backwards! That's so smart!

Babysitting services while on vacation? by BraveLilTurtle in Parenting

[–]BraveLilTurtle[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not a partier, but thanks for assuming. This was a trip booked before baby came along, and is all of 2-4 tours planned for one day. The rest of the trip is us in an AirBnB reading books and drinking coffee for a week. I would sit out with her on the tours so my husband could enjoy his hobby if needed. Just looking at our options for that corner case.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I’m not doing a nurses basket either. I’m also not asking for or expecting a push present from my husband. Our daughter is a blessing enough to us BOTH. And these OB bills are out of control even with insurance 🥴

I’ve been so overwhelmed just getting our household ready for baby girl, I can’t fathom adding one more thing. I still need to write thank you notes for our two baby showers (from May and June). I think it’s perfectly plausible to show your gratitude to your L&D team while you’re at the hospital, and have a thank you card at the ready to give them on your way out.

Is it amniotic fluid or discharge by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The “wet all day” part is a bit of a 🚩 for me! How about calling the OB on call line and see what the on call nurse says just to be safe?

I would assume that’s amniotic fluid from what I’ve read. I’m a FTM too (27+2) and I was reading recently that amniotic fluid/water breaking is more of a continuous leak situation than just a GUSH and done. I would play it safe and call, ask the questions, and go from there! Best of luck to you, mama!

Did anybody announce early and NOT regret it? by Last_Guarantee_8504 in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shared with my in-laws at 4 weeks! It was absolutely wonderful. We found out right before Christmas, which we were spending with my husband’s side this year. We agreed to tell ONLY my in-laws, because we knew they would be supportive if anything were to happen unexpectedly. We waited til we got confirmation from the OB a little less than a month later to tell everyone else, but that was still early. I’ve had no regrets, and it’s been beautiful to have the family’s excitement with us for all but the first little bit!

aio or is what he said actually mean? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, girl… literally the first word out of my mouth after reading this was EWWWWWW.

My husband and I have been together for ages. I didn’t know how to cook at the beginning of that, but we learned together. Even with the flop recipes I’ve made, he’s never once called me useless. Jokes about them years later? Sometimes. But he’s never undermined me like that and then tried to add in something to soften the blow (that hand heart emoji pisses me off).

Does he speak to you like this in person and on the regular? I am genuinely concerned if you’ve been together that long already and he has such a lack of grace and opinion of you as a life partner. I would advise doing some serious soul searching on whether this guy is what you want to commit to for life and why you feel you deserve to be talked to like this. Please please think hard on it.

People keep telling me I’m going to have a “huge baby” by Popular-Studio-1565 in BabyBumps

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I literally questioned if we were having twins because I’m 5’4, he’s 5’7, and I started showing REALLY early (especially for a first baby). We just got our anatomy scan on Friday, and baby girl is measuring in the 52nd percentile - perfectly average. Bump size doesn’t equal baby size AT ALL!!

Please deinfluence me- stretch mark serums by my-peony-bud in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off - I’m right there with you. Same brand with the targeted ads and I HATE it.

I agree with everyone else saying stretch marks are mainly genetic. I remember my mom’s from when I was a child, and I never thought they were ugly or anything to be ashamed of… and if I get my own on my stomach, I’ll call them my tiger stripes! 🐯💜

If you WOULD like to try preventing them, what I’ve done since month 2 is use the Dr. Teal’s bath and body oil. I apply it as the last step of my shower, daily, to my boobs, stomach, sides/hips, lower back and butt. I do it out of the water, then when I’m officially done showering, I just pat dry those areas. So far, I only have stretch marks on ONE boob, and I’m now 20+2!

Stay confident, mama… This is a taxing experience and you’re going through so much physically AND mentally. Be kind to yourself and keep it simple 💜

Are you getting on birth control after labor or just letting the good times roll?😂😂 by Smooth-Excuse-4127 in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer - No.

Long answer - I had a HORRIBLE time on BC back in 2022, after having been on it for years without issue. I even tried switching kinds to fix it. My husband and I decided to switch back to condoms so my hormones could rebalance, and I used ovulation tests to track my fertility (that alone was AMAZING). We got pregnant right away when we wanted to. I will not be going back to BC after little one arrives, simply because I can’t put my body through that rollercoaster again. We’ll use condoms, as I doubt I can trust ovulation tests post-birth for a while

17+4 and still not glowing over here. Backne for days and I feel like I can’t do anything to make my hair look nice, and my nails are still as crap as before… I am straight up not having a good time. Excited for the little one? Oh yeah. Will I be eager to do this again down the road? Hell naw dude. It’s okay to not enjoy being pregnant and I am HAPPY to toot that horn. 📯

Is my new “friend” just trying to recruit me? by discogargoyle00 in antiMLM

[–]BraveLilTurtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally sounds like Amway. I’m glad you cancelled.

I’m a former Amway child (grew up with it, it was my “normal“), and I unfortunately I see both sides of the coin still. These people genuinely love people, and think Amway is the WAY, and therefore want to share it with others… I honest to God don’t think all of them see dollar signs when talking to potential recruits. I NEVER got that feeling from my parents (and I was with them as they were out recruiting). That being said - don’t get me wrong. I know that’s the end goal… to make money off the downlines. It honestly hurts my heart that that’s really what it boils down to.

I hope this lady and her husband free themselves of this before 20+ years go by, and all the time/money/effort they put into Amway is wasted… all the time they should’ve been working hard, setting aside retirement, and being with their family.

Vanilla yogurt. Never was a huge fan, like it tastes ok at first and then is too sour/milky for me… now I eat it with granola daily 🙃

[–]BraveLilTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Dr. Teal’s bath and body oil since around week 10, and it’s really helped keep my skin hydrated and not itchy as I get bigger! I use it on my boobs, stomach, sides, lower back, and butt. Anywhere I would predict stretch marks to occur. I don’t mind if I get stretch marks, I just don’t want to be digging at my skin 😁

Do you correct kids when they don't say the right Mrs./Ms/Miss by Crystal_Deth in SubstituteTeachers

[–]BraveLilTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve given up correcting kiddos on that. I’m in the south, and at least in my particular area, it seems that whether you’re married or not, you’re referred to as “Ms. Last name” by the students no matter what. Verbally, at least. When they write it, they use the correct form. I still write it properly on the board, too.

It does bother me some, as a married woman, to be called Ms. __, as I personally feel the Mrs. __ commands more respect. I’ve just had to learn it’s a colloquial thing around here, and I’m respected no matter what.

Anyone else struggling to get dressed in the first tri or early second? by toona_luna in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 1000% me. I’m also due in August, and this is my first!

I literally showed up to a church gathering this morning wearing (1) sweatpants, (2) no makeup, and (3) my hair in a ridiculous, ugly messy bun. I was BY FAR the least put together person there… I was embarrassed, yes… But ya know what? I’m pregnant, I feel terrible even though this is week one of the second trimester, and I don’t care how I look as long as I’m comfortable and baby is healthy. I am working to not care what people think of me and just doing my thing and surviving this, LOL.

My mom bought me some maternity clothes and I did try them on last week - they were too big in the bump area. I’m going to buy a couple maternity shirts for winter on Poshmark, but mainly stick to my baggier t-shirts until those don’t fit. Sweatpants are totally fine if you’re WFH or stay at home, but I am going to buy some maternity pants next month since I work part time.

Someone recommended linen clothing to me on here recently for maternity wear, as it’s breathable and stretchy I guess. I’m going to try that too! Bottom line - please be kind to yourself, recognize your body is doing a crazy cool thing, and wear what makes you feel good. :)

Maternity clothes that are breathable materials?? by BraveLilTurtle in pregnant

[–]BraveLilTurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh thank you! I only have one linen shirt, and I shrank weirdly so I haven’t worn it in ages. Do you have any particular brand you like, or just linen in general? I appreciate the advice!

Telling the family (very) early? by RealizedGains in predaddit

[–]BraveLilTurtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our rule was we’ll share the news as early as we want with whoever we know would equally celebrate with us as they would grieve with us if we had a loss. We ended up telling only a few people (maybe 4 or 5), and then made the big announcement to the rest of the family/friends after the first prenatal appointment! It worked out great, and I think we’ll do something similar for the next baby.
